Summary
Alan Wake 2’s The Lake House DLC has been given an October release window by developer Remedy Entertainment. Last month,Alan Wake 2’s director Sam Lake appeared on the Summer Game Fest stage to announce a physical and collector’s edition of the smash-hit horror sequel coming this October. Simultaneously, Lake revealed the imminent release ofAlan Wake 2’s first DLC, Night Springs, which went live a day later.
Split into three distinct hour-long vignette chapters,Alan Wake 2’s Night Springs gives players control of three characters within itsTwilight Zone-inspired TV show world. Diner waitress andAlan Wake’s number one fan, Rose Marigold’s segment is basked in wonderfully surreal pink and teal hues as she jaunts through the woods surrounding Bright Falls to save the tortured writer. Jesse Faden, protagonist of Remedy’s 2019 action hitControl, leads another, creepier chapter set in Watery’s Coffee World at night that eerily parallelsControl’s story. Bright Falls Sheriff Tim Baker leads the final episode, which takes place on a video game set and takes the character on a wild existential journey spanning different video game genres.
In arecentAlan Wake 2FAQ, Remedy Entertainment revealed that the game’s second DLC, The Night House, is planning an October release. While no actual date was given, it’s possible that the expansion is looking to coincide withAlan Wake 2’s physical releaseon October 22, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
When Is Alan Wake 2’s The Lake House DLC Planning to Release?
Part of the FAQ gave a brief description of what fans can expect from The Lake House, describing the building as a “mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake set up by an independent government organization to conduct secret research…” This makes it seem like the DLC will have something to do with either the small Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) hut or the Witchfinder’s Station, both found inAlan Wake 2’s Cauldron Lake area. Whether The Lake House will be split into three chapters like its preceding Night Springs DLC is unknown. However, Night Springs' status as a TV show justifies its episodic structure; The Lake House may turn out to be a single, straightforward experience.
With a sequel toControlconfirmed to be in development, and considering the DLC’s strong likelihood of FBC involvement, there’s a possibility that The Lake House could besetting the stage forControl’s upcoming follow-up. Night Springs has already brought Jesse Faden into the fold, albeit within the Night Springs TV show; perhaps she’ll have another role to play in The Lake House as well. With the DLC now aiming for October, fans will only have a few more months to wait to find out.
