The Elder Scrolls Onlineis about to introduce its players to the city of Necrom, a place only whispered about before now. This expansion includes a barrage of novel content, includinga brand-newESOclass and two zones. Players can’t wait to sink their teeth into Necrom’s arrival, and fortunately, they won’t have to wait long.

Par for the course, this content update will bring with it an abundance of Necrom-related quests, gear, and challenges, along with two new companions. On top of this, players must solve mysteries, puzzles, and riddles, as nothing is quite what it seems whenever the Daedric Prince of Knowledge is involved. Hermaeus Mora features as a prominent character inThe Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom, and as a fan-favorite entity already, he’s unlikely to disappoint.

Necrom Is In a Part of Morrowind Players Haven’t Seen Until Now

Perched uponMorrowind’s easternmost peninsula, the city of Necrom is also known as the City of the Dead. Generations of Dark Elves have been coming here to entomb their honored dead, the endless corridors beneath its white sepulchers now housing the remains of thousands of Dunmer ancestors. One of the new zones to become available is the Telvanni Peninsula, which encapsulates the whole region surrounding and including the city of Necrom.

Although the origin of the city is largely unknown, legend says that it was formed from the skeleton of the great beast Gulga Mor Jil. When Vivec of the Tribunal slayed the monster, Necrom was built upon its remains, its bones forming the jagged rocks that surround the city. The Necrom expansion forms part of theShadow Over Morrowind story arcand will feature the aforementioned city as its main setting.

Necrom is also the gateway between Nirn and Apocrypha, the infinite realm of Hermaeus Mora and the second new zone to come to the game inThe Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimwas the last gameto fully flesh out the Prince of Fate, as players encountered him and his domain frequently in the game’sDragonbornDLC. That being said, few Daedric Princes are as secretive as Mora given his propensity to hoard knowledge and use it to manipulate mortals, so it’s entirely possible players really do know nothing about him.

The new class coming inThe Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom, the Arcanist, is one which uses the powers of Hermaeus Mora and Apocrypha. This class will use a variety of tomes, runes, and spells to protect allies and destroy enemies, drawing upon the forbidden knowledge of their Daedric master. Why Mora has chosen to give his power so freely to the mortal races of Tamriel is not yet known, but it’s clear that the Prince of Fate faces a threat that even he needs help to overcome.

More content being added includes a twelve-man trial called Sanity’s Edge, wherein players must assemble a team of champions to delve within the mind of a mage to save them from insanity. IfHermaeus Mora’s most dangerous secretsfell into the wrong hands, it could spell the end of reality. To this end, there is also a new World Event coming to Tamriel, the Bastion Nymic, which involves players opening a portal into Apocrypha and fighting to protect the Daedric Prince’s fortress from invaders.

As of right now, all players with the base edition can play through the Necrom prologue, a quest line that lets them prove their worth to the Prince of Fate alongside his chosen emissary, Leramil the Wise. Not much more is known aboutThe Elder Scrolls Online: Necromat this stage, but one thing’s for sure: delving into thedomain of the Daedric Prince of Knowledgeis going to take all the bravery and cunning players can muster.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Necromreleases on Jun 17, 2025 for PC/Mac and July 16, 2025 for Xbox and PlayStation.
