WhileCyberpunk 2077is certainlychewing up all the air concerning recently released cyberpunk-themed titles, another eagerly anticipated title set within the genre isANNO: Mutationemfrom Chinese developer ThinkingStars. The game is part of PlayStation’s China Hero Project, which highlights games developed by Chinese indie developers. While the game is still coming to PC in early 2021, ThinkingStars have announced thatANNO: Mutationemhas been delayed to Q3 2021 on PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles.

ANNO: Mutationemwas first announced during ChinaJoy 2018 alongside other titles in PlayStation’s China Hero Project. Earlier this monthANNO: Mutationemmade its PC playable debut during The Game Awards Steam Demo Festival, however the game was originally slated to release in December 2020, leaving many fans to wonder why ThinkingStars had yet to announce the game’s release date. Now, on the last day of the year no less, ThinkingStars has confirmed that while the PC version is still on track for early 2021, the PS4 and PS5 versions ofANNO: Mutationemhave been delayed to Q3 2021, placing the game’s release between July and September 2021. The delay is to polish the console versions' release and prepare the game for launch on other platforms later in 2021.

As the developer states in its Twitter post, feedback fromANNO: Mutationem’s Game Awards demo caused the developers to reflect on the game’s quality and re-plan and re-polish much of the game’s content. The game will also be announced for more platforms in 2021, meaning it could see an Xbox and Nintendo Switch release before the end of next year too. Giventhe controversy regarding other games within the cyberpunk genrereleasing this month, this is understandably the best call of action for the game’s developers, releasing a game it is confident in rather than one that will release as soon as possible.

ANNO: Mutationemwill release on PC in Q1 2021, with PS4 and PS5 versions to follow in Q3 2021.
