It seems that the current leading battle royale games are beginning to undergo some major changes. First, as of the Chapter 3 Season 2 update,Fortnitehas removed buildingfrom its core gameplay, allowing players to focus primarily on shooting their competitors. Now, it seems that popular battle royaleApex Legendsis also bringing about something that fans have been wanting for a long time. The next-gen updates toApex Legendshave finally arrived, with plenty of features for players.
There had been rumors of a next-genApex Legendsrelease since the announcement of the PS5 and Xbox Series X back in 2020. With the increased frame rates offered by both next-gen consoles, many competitive shooter players were excited to dig into the advantages of smoother frame rates and the faster performance that PC players had enjoyed for so long. In August 2021,a next-gen update forApex Legendswas announcedby the developers at Respawn Entertainment, who stated that they were looking forward to seeing it.

Now, fans can finally see what the next generation ofApex Legendswill look like as the PS5 and Xbox Series X version of the game launches today. Alongside a wealth of new changes brought about by a new patch of the game, players will notice in the patch notes that Respawn casually reveals the native next-gen versions ofApex Legendshave launched. Current owners of the PS4 and Xbox One versions will have to download a patch to play on their new consoles, while new players can pick up the game straight from the Xbox and PlayStation stores for their next-gen machines.
Currently, the native next-gen versions ofApex Legendsallow for gameplay at 4K with 60FPS, though there will be some more enhancements brought in through future patches. Further updates will bring the FPS all the way up to 120 and will allow for use of the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers available on thePS5’s DualSense controllers. Also, according to the full patch notes, there will be more audio and visual enhancements to come, too, implying that though the next-gen version ofApex Legendshas released, it’s still a work in progress.
Next-gen updates are not the only pieces of new content coming toApex Legendsin the future though. According to the patch notes, Respawn is bringing back the 9v9 Control mode alongside a new map for Arena. A huge leak also recently dropped a bunch of new information onupcoming content forApex Legendslike new maps and cosmetics, as well as a total of nine new Legends coming to the game.
