On Reddit, a user by the name of Key_Television_4278 has posted artwork that combines Pokemon from the Kanto region with the body of the bug, Caterpie. Shared to thePokemonsubreddit, the pixel artwork includes variations of the three Kanto starters, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, all mixed into the body of the worm Pokemon. Each of the 80-plus monsters comes with its own distinguishing color schemes and features, such as Charmander’s fire tail or Bulbasaur’s bulb.
Based on the comments section, fans are already won over by the artist’s work. Replies include praise for not only the effort of the artwork but also the various puns and mashups with each name. Standouts surrounding the names include Lickpie for Lickitung and Zupie for Zubat. The Poison bat has seen a fair share of fan art over the years, including a recent mashup thatblended Zubat and Ekans together into an adorable design.
The post only focuses on the pre-evolutions of the Gen 1 monsters, meaning that popular evolutions such as the Eevee line and Gyarados are missing, but all the legendary birds, as well as the mythical Mew, are present in the striking piece. The special 151st Pokemon is seeing a resurgence thanks to theMew distribution event happening inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, where players are able to claim a Mew until September 18 via the mystery gift option in-game.
Thanks to the introduction of Paradox Forms inPokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, players of the community have been inspired to create different takes on popular Gen 1 monsters, such as aParadox Form Ditto.
