Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold began hisDiablo 4early access beta in a tumultuous way, first having his game disconnect and then appearing to lose his freshly made character. TheDiablo 4early access beta began on Friday morning but has struggled with some frustrating initial technical issues. Asmongold was one of the first to dive into the beta, but also one of the first to run headfirst intoDiablo 4’s frustrating technical problems.

To Blizzard’s credit, it’s communicated that there are ongoing technical problems with the beta. Issues listed include graphical problems with certain cutscenes, in-game voice chat problems, performance optimization errors, and expected long queue times. It hasn’t mentioned in-game crashes, but those have been happening, too. It’s perhaps important to remember thatDiablo 4is still close to three months away from a full launch. Blizzard is still hard at work improving the game.

A clip from Asmongold’s most recent Twitch stream captured the streamer’s despair over a sequence of unfortunate events within theDiablo 4early access beta. After spending a good amount of time making a character, one ofDiablo 4’s Barbarians, Asmongold has reached an early town area. This is just five minutes into the game, at most. Asmongold talks to an NPC, only to suddenly be disconnected. The message “Network Disconnect: your client has been disconnected from the server” ushered Asmongold out of the game.

Luckily, Asmongold’s game didn’t crash fully. He didn’t have to restart his client, so he didn’t have to go through the currentDiablo 4server queue. However, it wasn’t all good news. For whatever reason, when presented with the character select screen, Asmongold’s newly-made barbarian was nowhere to be found. His only option was to create a new character and startDiablo 4all over again.

To Asmongold’s credit, he took the series of unfortunate events in stride. He joked about howTwitch streamerswere supposed to be given secret priority access to things like theDiablo 4beta and made exaggerated responses to both the crash and the missing Barbarian. He’d go on to play plenty ofDiablo 4smoothly, even earning his first Legendary rarity item.

Despite the technical issues and jokes callingDiablo 4a bad game, Asmongold praised it overall. It’s unfortunate that the technical issuesDiablo 4is facing will prevent many people from having good first impressions, but that’s the cost of launching a beta before those problems have been solved. It’s a recurring Blizzard issue at this point. Still, for thoseDiablo 4players who do get the chance to play, like Asmongold, it sounds like a pretty good time.

Diablo 4releases June 6 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
