Coming from the latest issue of Famitsu, PlatinumGames has given a small look into the development process ofBayonetta 3through an extended interview. This is the first time the company has offered up new information since an unassuming tweet claiming from December that implied thatdevelopment was going well.
Similar to that recent tweet, the current news is positive for the development ofBayonetta 3, with series creator Hideki Kamiya claiming that the game was ‘developing smoothly’ at the time of the interview. Kamiya was joined in the interview by Producer Atsushi Inaba, both of whom shared the inside look atBayonetta3’s future announcementsand development updates.

Along with the inspiring news thatBayonetta 3is ‘developing smoothly’, Kamiya also commented on the original development for the series and some of the reasons for early development decisions, like originally being an Xbox 360 exclusive. Supposedly, the reason for the Xbox 360 being chosen was that it was the easiest to develop on at the time, an achievement thatPS5 boastsfor modern game developers. However, it would seem that those budget restraints aren’t as much of an issue now, asBayonetta 3is currently being developed for the Nintendo Switch.
“Bayonetta 3‘s development is progressing smoothly. Actually, there’s a lot of info hidden in the teaser announcement in 2017.” - Hideki Kamiya
Attached to Kamiya’s statement about the smooth progress ofBayonetta 3’s development, was a small hint for players to look closely at the original teaser trailer from 2017. Perhaps there is something within that short clip that viewers missed on a first glance and still hasn’t been discovered by mainstream data divers and speculative fans. This could have something to do with theannouncements Kamiya teasedwould be coming from the game at some point in 2020.
Regardless of teasers and pushes from Kamiya and Inaba to get the hype train rolling forBayonetta 3, hearing that development is progressing smoothly is great news for the upcoming title. PlatinumGames has a history of getting through development and putting games on shelves, though the company does have someunfortunate titles like Scaleboundthat never made it to launch. Similarly, with the wave of delays that have already rocked early 2020, any good news from a developer about the progress a game is making is welcome news.
That being said, this isn’t exactly a lot to go on, so while the news may be uplifting for now, that still doesn’t mean whether or notBayonetta 3is slated for 2020 or even further in the future.
