Ghostbusters: Afterlifeis, at its heart, a comedy. There are serious parts to it to be sure, but there are funny moments to ease the tension. It’s also not the most action-packed film of 2021, but there are plenty of breathtaking visuals and scenes to take in besides the hilarious bits.

One of the greatest reoccurring jokes in the film has to do with Phoebe. She’s an awkward child who doesn’t seem to make friends easily. She tries to cope with weird situations by telling what she thinks are funny jokes but are really just made for dads. What other comedic and fun moments should be highlighted inGhostbusters: Afterlife?
There will be spoilers ahead.
8The Dirt Farmer
One of the most consistent jokes told throughoutGhostbusters: Afterlifepoked fun at Egon, aka the Dirt Farmer, having a family. “Dirt Farmer has a family?” That’s about the same quote everyone says when they find outthe female lead, Phoebe, is related to Egon.
Repetition is essential to comedy and that proves true with this joke. The very idea of Egon farming dirt is also just a fun scenario to imagine since it is such a departure from his portrayal in the original 1984 movie.
7Unlocking The Ghost Trap
Gary serves as the audience’s surrogate when it comes togushing about ghostsand the Ghostbusters. He can hardly believe Phoebe is related to Egon let alone that she has his equipment. When he finds out Phoebe and Podcast brought a Ghost Trap to school, Gary wants to open it up.
It doesn’t really make a lot of sense for him to do that. After all, he knows there could potentially be ghosts inside. When they do get it to open up, it bursts through the windshield of Gary’s car, which becomes a running gag all its own throughout the film.
6Chasing Muncher
One of thefirst big ghostsPhoebe and Podcast encounter is Muncher. It starts with the two of them trying to trap it at an abandoned factory before they meet up with Trevor and give chase in the Ecto-1.

The stakes are low at this point but the ghost chase is still a high point of the movie even if it is on a smaller scale. Watching downtown Somerville explode in a sea of skates via Phoebe’s poor aiming was a treat.
5The Mini Stay-Puft Marshmallow Men
Gary’s time at Walmart is full of fun moments. The biggest highlight is when the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Men start waking up and causing destruction. It’s more of a scene straight out of aGremlinssequelrather than aGhostbustersmovie.
The most striking thing about them is their apparent wish to die. From getting blended to being melted with chocolate or stabbed by cocktail umbrellas, these Stay-Puft demons do not care in the slightest.
4Shandor’s End
There are a lot of great cameos in the film that some viewers may have missed the first time around. For example, Olivia Wilde players Gozer. JK Simmons, who awakens around the same time, plays Shandor.
While these two are both huge names in the industry, JK Simmons only has a few lines before Gozer literally tears him in two. It’s one of the most shocking things in the film. It’s not gory. It’s just a surprising featfor the villainto do.
3THE Ghostbusters Arrive
One of the most poorly kept secrets aboutGhostbusters: Afterlifewas that all of the Ghostbusters would return at some point. Ray’s hand is even shown in one of the trailers. How could therebe a sequelwithout one, if not all, Ghostbusters returning?

Even with that knowledge in mind, seeing them come together for one last fight at the near last second of the movie was a real treat. Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014, also makes a posthumous appearance as Egon’s ghost.
2Peter’s Card Tricks
The Ghostbusters were not the only ones to return. Sigourney Weaver also made a cameo in the mid-credits section of the movie. The scene begins with Peter looking at a card and is tied up to an electronic machine. This is a nod to the first film wherein Peter is the one surveying two students.
The camera slowly pans away to reveal Dana Barrett in the flesh. That scene would have been sweet enough on its own to see them getting back together, however, Peter getting shocked was like icing on the cake.
1Winston’s New Project
After the mid-credits scene, there is one final one between Winston and Janine. It’s actually a fairly long end-credits surprise too which firsts starts out in Winston’s office. The scene then changes to the old firehouse. It looks like Winston is going to open up the business again.
Is he going to do some ghost hunting himself? No, probably not. This does point to the conclusion that he will at least be around to mentor the next generation of Ghostbusters. Hopefully, this proposed sequel will happen sooner rather than later while the remaining actors are still alive.A TV showwould be a good idea be it live-action or cartoon.
