Hogwarts Legacy Starting Outfit

Updated July 04, 2025, by Joe Grantham:The best thing about outfits in Hogwarts Legacy is that, thanks tothe game’s fantastic transmog system, players can alter the appearance of each gear slot while still retaining the benefits of equipping the strongest gear. There are six gear/appearance slots in total: Handwear, Headwear, Facewear, Neckwear, Cloaks and Robes, as well as Outfits.

Once any aspect of an outfit has been found or unlocked by players, it will remain as an appearance option even if they sell the gear. This means that, by exploring, looting, and completing certain challenges or quests, players can gradually unlock allHogwarts Legacy outfitsand won’t need to part with them. Lastly, although updates for the game are far from regular, they are often accompanied by new cosmetics, such as the Azkaban outfits delivered with the Summer Update of 2024.

Hogwarts Legacy Shopkeeper’s Ensemble Outfit

25Outfit From The Prologue

Dress Code: Casual/Travel

Everyone will remember the outfit fromHogwarts Legacy’sprologue when the main character is traveling to Hogwarts but ends up assisting Professor Fig on a dangerous mission. For those who played the game at release, this outfit would sadly disappear from their inventory after arriving at school, and it was only obtainable as extremely rare loot.

Thankfully, however, the Common Victorian Garb and Rugged Overcoat have seemingly been added to players' inventories, although this may not have worked for everyone’s existing saves. Nevertheless, this outfit is perfect for immersion, as it’s appropriate for the Victorian era and the main character canonically owns it already.

Hogwarts Legacy Secret Solver’s Bathing Costume

24Shopkeeper’s Outfit

Dress Code: Formal

The Minding Your Own Business side questis one of the best inHogwarts Legacyand while it was originally a PlayStation exclusive, it has since been made available for all players. On top of eventually earning their own shop to run, which means a steady supply of Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts, players will also unlock all three elements of the Shopkeeper’s Outfit.

This ensemble is perfect for strutting around Hogsmeade as a proud business owner and isn’t too over-the-top like a few other outfits. Players can choose whether to wear the top hat or not, or could opt for another.

Hogwarts Legacy Leather Winter Cloak, Scarf, & Flatcap

23Secret Solver’s Bathing Costume

Dress Code: Casual

Whether players are headed down to the Great Lake or to the Prefects' Bathroom, there’s no better outfit than the Secret Solver’s Bathing Costume. This navy blue outfit looks great on both wizards and witches alike and feels authentic for the time period, enhancing immersion.

To get it, players will thankfully only need to complete one of the Hogwarts' Secrets puzzles. There are three of these, with each of them unlocking some of the bestHogwarts Legacyoutfits. There is the Viaduct Bridge puzzle, another to do with the pendulum in the Clock Tower, and finally, there is the Key of Admittance puzzle near the Headmaster’s office.

22Leather Winter Cloak

Dress Code: Adventuring/Casual

In terms of style, the Leather Winter Cloak is certainly one of the best outer garments, and in many ways, it makes the main character look like a fighter pilot from the first half of the 20th century. This jacket is naturally best worn in winter when walking around Hogsmeade or the Scottish Highlands. It goes with so many items of clothing, such as flatcaps and fluffy hats, thick woolen scarves and jumpers, and gloves, too.

The only downside to the Leather Winter Cloak is that, to acquire it, players simply have to get lucky when opening loot, as this is the only way to add it to one’s inventory.

Professor Abraham Ronen from Hogwarts Legacy

21Officer Uniform

Dress Code: Roleplay

Defending the magical world and the Muggles against the horrors of cursed magic and the dark arts requires a fitting uniform. As such,Hogwarts Legacyplayers may want to roleplay as an officer of magical law with this outfit, which is unlocked byprogressing through the Dueling Featschallenge.

The outfit consists of robes and a hat, which will make the protagonist appear as Hogsmeade and the surrounding area’s very own police officer. It’s a good roleplay opportunity, especially for those looking to bring the poachers to justice.

Hogwarts Legacy Azkaban Prisoner Outfit

20Charms Professor Outfit

If players have ever glanced at Professor Abraham Ronen and thought about how great his robes look, then they are in luck, as his entire outfit is available to all gamers for free. Although the components of this outfit were previously Twitch-exclusive rewards, Portkey Games listened to players who missed out, and now, this entire outfit is waiting in everyone’s inventory.

These beautiful purple robes are full of character and are particularly fitting for Slytherin students due to the large snake-like S clasp. The gold trim, purple bow tie, and hat top off this ensemble, making it one of thebest looking outfits inHogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy Autumn Festival Cloak

19Azkaban Prisoner’s Outfit & Coat

One of the best things about being aHufflepuff inHogwarts Legacyis that they are able to visit Azkaban in an exclusive mission. However, as a small recompense for all those who missed out, the Summer Update of 2024 thankfully added a new free outfit to help players feel like they just escaped from the infamous wizarding prison.

The Azkaban Prisoner’s outfit features the classic blue stripes of prison uniforms, but the material is incredibly faded, as seen in theHarry Pottermovies. The coat, meanwhile, is just as torn and ragged as the one worn by Sirius Black after his escape. Paired withthe new Photo Mode forHogwarts Legacy, players can use this outfit to capture some beautifully dark pictures.

A clip from Hogwarts Legacy hints Headmaster Black shares his family’s hateful views of non-pure blood wizards and witches.

18Autumn Festival Cloak & Dapper Mauve Ensemble

Dress Code: Adventuring

Ever since the advent of theHarry Pottermovies, the series has always had a rustic, antique aesthetic, especially around places such as The Burrow and Diagon Alley. The Autumn Festival Cloak fits in perfectly with this theme as it is made up of patchwork fabric. To wear it, however, players must firstcomplete 32 Dueling Feats, which is no easy task.

To complete the look, players can wear something like the Dapper Mauve Ensemble or anything else with earthy colors. This particular aspect of clothing is unlocked at random from loot.

Hogwarts Legacy Dreamer’s Nightwear

17Tailored Tailcoat

The Tailored Tailcoat is an outfit worn by one ofthe worst Hogwarts Professorsof all time, Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black. However, if players are able to solve two of the three Hogwarts' Secrets puzzles, then they can strut around the castle and Hogsmeade in this fine tailcoat.

As it all comes in one outfit, no cloak is needed, although players might want to wear a nice pair of black gloves for added effect. A classic Victorian top hat can also go nicely with this outfit, and by using certainConjurations in the Room of Requirement, players can even recreate the look of number 12 Grimmauld Place, the home of the House of Black.

16Dreamer’s Nightwear

Dress Code: Casual Nightwear

Hogwarts isn’t just a school of witchcraft and wizardry, but as a boarding school, it is also a home for both students and staff. Therefore, throughout the books and films, Harry and his friends often get into trouble while in their pajamas. If players want to fully immerse themselves inHogwarts Legacy, then they should also put on some pajamas, and arguably the best pair is the Dreamer’s Nightwear.

These light-blue satin nightclothes have a certain elegance to them while remaining casual, and most importantly, comfy. They can also be paired with a Blue Nightcap, although as both of these items can only be unlocked via random loot, acquiring them is up to chance. Thankfully, there is plenty of other nighttime attire for players to put on when they want to wander the castle after hours.
