Modder Gibrietas has created a strange mod forStraythat combines it with Quantic Dream’sHeavy Rain.Heavy Rainwas first released in 2010 to critical acclaim, though later years have seen people be more critical of the game. Many jokes and memes have been made aboutHeavy Rain’s melodramatic scenes, particularly a sequence early on when players lose track of their son Jason and are then prompted to press X to yell for him.
The appropriately named JASON mod forStrayreplaces the game’s meow button with “JASON!” fromHeavy Rain. Gibrietas uploaded a video of the mod in action, showingStray’s beginning area with the mod in effect. Typically, this cute scene shows theStraycatinteracting with its fellow cat companions, meowing, playing with each other’s tails, etc., and it’s adorable. With theHeavy Rainmod applied, it is almost creepy.
Moving forward, it will be interesting to see what other mods are created forStray. As it stands,Strayis a short and relatively small game, with players able to easily earn 100% completion in well under 10 hours. Considering how smallStrayis, it stands to reason that the modding scene will also be fairly small, as modders simply have less to work with than they do in other games. However, Gibrietas' JASON mod shows that there’s still a lot of hilarious work creative modders can accomplish withStray. Whether any of them surpass the JASON mod remains to be seen.
Strayis out now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
