TheBorderlandsfranchise is renowned for its expansive cast of bizarre and absurd characters. While the main cast ofBorderlandstends to be neutral, its supporting cast can get pretty wacky, with both allies and villains alike given some wonderfully satirical voice lines. From theinfamous Face McShootywho begs players to shoot him in the face, to fan-favorites like Scooter, theBorderlandsfranchise has no shortage of colorful characters, and the Flynt family may include some of the most memorable.
The firstBorderlandsgame came in 2009, meaning the franchise has been around for well over a decade now. In that time,Borderlandshas had a variety of spin-offs and sequels, and the Flynt family has managed to find its way into almost every single one. Whether they’re the leader of a bandit group, the captain of a bandit ship, or a respected member of the Crimson Raiders, the Flynt family members have all left their mark onBorderlands' in-game world, and real-world fans.

Borderlands' Flynt Family Tree
The first Flynt family member that players met wasBorderlands' Baron Flynt, a bandit lord found in the Salt Flats. A formerprison warden for Dahl, Baron Flynt was abandoned by the company and decided to set his prisoners free. To repay him, the convicts joined forces, and formed a bandit tribe, with Baron Flynt as their leader. The bandits set up their base atop an excavator and named it Thor. Baron Flynt is eventually killed byBorderlands' Vault Hunters, who mistakenly believe he has the final Vault Key piece. Baron Flynt’s death leaves his bandit tribe scattered, which allows the Crimson Lance to rise to power in the Salt Flats.
A few years later, the Baron’s brother - known simply as Captain Flynt - becomes the leader of his very own bandit tribe. The shipmaster of The Soaring Dragon, Captain Flynt leads his pirate-themed FleshRipper Bandit gang from his airborne ship, which was often docked at the Southern Shelf. One day,Borderlands' mascot character Claptrapwould stumble into Captain Flynt’s camp. The Captain spent a few months torturing the robot before the Vault Hunters would come to look for their companion, leading to Captain Flynt’s death.
Before Captain Flynt’s death, he had a son named Sparky Flynt who despised his father, but still respected the man enough to seek revenge on his father’s killers. In theBorderlands2DLC “Sir Hammerlock vs. the son of Crawmerax,” the Vault Hunters run into Sparky and proceed to kill him as well. This trend would change with the final member of the Flynt family,Borderlands 3’s Zane Flynt, who ended up working alongside someformer Vault Hunters.
Now the playableOperative class inBorderlands 3, Zane Flynt joined an elite black ops mercenary group when he was young, abandoning his family on Pandora. To check up on him over the years, his brother Captain Flynt would occasionally send a gang of assassins. After leaving the mercenary organization, Zane set out on his own, and worked as an assassin-for-hire. Eventually, Zane grew tired of constantly moving and avoiding the countless assassins on his trail. He returned to Pandora, and ended up being recruited by the Crimson Raiders, who needed help in taking down the Children of the Vault inBorderlands 3.
