After a week of voting by theDestiny 2community in the first of two votes, players now know which of three exotics weapons will be receiving an ornament and will begin the second community vote in the very near future. The current community ornament vote gave players the chance to choose whether Witherhoard, Thunderlord, orIzangi’s Burdenwill receive one of three ornaments given life by a community artist chosen by Bungie. With the first step of this now done, players will be waiting to see what the anonymous artist, as of this writing, will create for the winning weapon.
Bungie ran its lastDestiny 2ornament community vote in August 2022 and saw the community get the chance to decide whether the Arbalest, Sweet Business, or Rat King would receive an ornament designed by a community artist. Arbalest came out on top, with the community deciding the cyberpunk-inspired design, titled Synthewave, by artist StellarStateLogic would be the ornament the weapon would receive in a coming season. It was later confirmed by Bungie the ornament will be available to pick up when Season of the Deep kicks off in May 2023.

The first round of voting saw players land on the Witherhoard exotic grenade launcher, making it clear they want to see the launcher receive the new ornament. Bungie spoke about the vote in the latest This Week at Bungie post, revealing the grenade launcher took 45% of the vote to Thunderlord’s 36% and 19% for Izangi’s Burden. Sam Bartley, one of Bungie’s community managers and this week’s TWAB author, added they were surprised the vote wasn’t closer and hinted they were personally hopingThunderlordwould come out victorious.
The developer continued, saying it would be “syncing up with our community artist,” who will now be tasked with producing three possible ornaments forWitherhoardthe community will have to vote between. No timetable was provided for when players can see the ornaments they will get to choose between, only saying the designs will be seen in a future TWAB post. Given the community vote didn’t officially end until December 2022, it could be a bit of a wait until players can see the possible Witherhoard ornament designs.
Depending on the artist Bungie chooses to create these new ornaments for Witherhoard, the community could end up seeing some wildly different designs based on the chosen artist’s tastes and ideas. Witherhoard, in particular, offers some unique lore for the artist to play with given its links to bothThe Drifterand The Witness' Pyramid fleet. In the end, though, it will all come down to the community and which potential ornament they feel is the standout when the second round of voting begins.
