Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warrevealed a tremendous amount of information regarding its multiplayer during the official reveal yesterday, and it seems like that flow of info is continuing. Today, Activision has confirmed that both weapon inspection and executions will be present inBlack Ops Cold War.
While weapon inspection has no impact on gameplay, the long-awaited feature was well-received whenpatched intoModern Warfarelast month. WhileBlack Ops Cold Warlacked weapon inspection in yesterday’s Alpha gameplay, Activision informed Charlie Intel that it would be ready to go at launch.

Weapon inspection would be nice to see in theBlack Ops Cold Warbeta on October 8thas well, but it remains unclear if it will be ready by then. If it is anything like the weapon inspection for previous games in the series, different weapons will have different animations that can be seen by the press of a button. The inspections are usually unique as well, with a closer look at a handgun’s details being far different than the animation that plays when inspecting an LMG. Seeing weapon inspections within thenew version ofCall of DutyZombieswould be a nice touch, as the mode has never seen the feature.
Activision also confirmed the return of melee executions inBlack Ops Cold War, a system that adds variety to the various operators in multiplayer. Each operator gets their own execution that matches their personality, usually featuring different weapons and occasionally even animals. Whether executions will be activated through stealth kills like inModern Warfareis unclear, but it is a safe bet that melees from behind will still be the trigger.
New executions throughBlack Ops Cold War’s battle pass andcustomization packs similar toModern Warfare’sis likely, as the special kills are an enticing cosmetic microtransaction. WithBlack Ops Cold Warfollowing in the path of the previousCall of Dutygame and making additional maps and modes free, cosmetics will likely be the main source of income for Activision after players have bought their copies. Still, executions are a nice feature to see come back, as they make challenging melee kills a bit flashier and more rewarding.
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold Waris taking some big risks such asa new scorestreak system, so some fans may be relieved to see returning features present in the game as well. Executions and weapon inspections are two small touches, but when combined with the classicCoDmini-map and theater mode, the small features are starting to add up.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warwill be available November 13th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X upgrades will also be available.
