Activision Blizzard recently rolled out an update forCall of Duty: Warzoneand many players have noticed changes to their favorite weapons. One fan-favorite weapon, theModern WarfareMP5, has been hit by a noticeable nerf.
Call of Duty: Warzoneofficially kicked off Season 5 on August 17. The update patch included numerous changes, with weapon nerfs and buffs joining the addition of some new weapons.Call of Dutyoutlet Charlie Intel quickly noticed drastic changes to theMWMP5 in the form of reduced damage and reduced range of effectiveness.

TheModern WarfareMP5 nerf brought theModern Warfareversion of the submachine gun down to 31 damage from 34, while the range of effectiveness was also reduced by 5.4%. TheCall of Duty Black Ops: Cold Warversion didn’t receive as harsh of a nerf, so players may switch to that version of the weapon now. Prior to this MP5 nerf, the SMG was popular amongstCall of Duty: Warzonefans for close-range encounters, but that might change withCall of Duty Black Ops: Cold WarSeason 5.
Some of the best meta weapons forCall of Duty: Warzonesince the August 17 update include the Tec-9, PKM, and M16. Several players may have found a gun that works for them, but some MP5 players may be looking for a new weapon. Between theCold WarandModern Warfarearsenal of weapons,Call of Duty: Warzonefansstill have plenty to choose from.
ExperiencedCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warplayers will notice the drastic changes to the baseMP5, but thanks to several attachments, players can optimize the SMG a little better. Players who are just starting out inCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warmay not notice any changes to the weapon, but these nerfs will likely make it less appealing to the new players.
Several Twitter users recently took to Charlie Intel’s reporting on the MP5 nerfs to say that the SMG was overpowered to begin with. Many additional people claimed that it’s still a worthwhile gun to have in a loadout, while others said that it needed to be nerfed so that other guns could get the spotlight.
One Twitter user pointed out that many of theCall of Duty:Modern Warfareweaponscontinue to receive nerfs while theCold Warweapons get buffed or are untouched. SomeCall of Dutyfans were also keen to point out that the Mac-10 remains a more versatile weapon than the MP5 after the Black Ops Cold War Season 5 update.
