SomeCall of Duty: Modern Warfareplayers abuse glitches and bugs to get an unfair advantage over the competition, but others take more deceptive routes. Usually, this type of abuse includesfading through the map to kill players undetectedand with impunity, but the latest method to plague the game happens to be a little more creative.

t does, of course, still involve killing players undetected, but instead of doing it behind the cover of the map, players can now do it freely out in the open (with admittedly a little less protection). The method involves players entering into game modes with blank user names, eliminating the red marker that denotes them as enemies.

The chaos ofModern Warfaremakes this exploit frighteningly effective. It already takes a moment for names to appear above players' heads when they get close. Combine that will all the gunfire, explosions, spawn issues, and flashbangs going off, and it’s fairly easy to run up on someone and kill them without much resistance.

While the solution to this problem sounds simple enough (just shoot at everyone), things get a little more complicated when modes like Hardcore get brought into the equation. For those who don’t know, Hardcore enables friendly-fire, so just shooting at random can be more harmful than helpful in most situations. Most of the more favored maps inModern Warfarealso happen to be smaller, making the chaos that much more effective at hiding “blank name” users (see theShoot the Ship 24/7 playlist).

Reddit user Faaw brought attention to this method through a post that entreats Infinity Ward to do something about it as soon as possible. As of this writing, Infinity Ward hasn’t yet responded, but it’s definitely something it will want to look into quickly. Normally, it’s easy to pick out the players abusing glitches and other things to get ahead in the game because they have easily discernible nametags. But what happens when these same players decide to abuse these same glitches without names? WithModern WarfareSeason 1providing weekly updates, this problem could disappear soon, but players shouldn’t expect it too by the next update.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
