Summary
The Sims 4is a game that allows players to build the houses of their dreams, full of luxurious, modern decor. Unfortunately, however, not all Sims have a bottomless bank account. This is especially true for those who enjoyRags To Riches gameplayor Simmers who build fixer-uppers. Thankfully, there are a variety of inexpensive andfreeoptions for players to consider.
RELATED:Most Expensive Items In The Sims 4
Cheap items are evident in expansion packs likeCity Living,Cats & Dogs, andDiscover University. Although the affordable price of these items may be enticing, cheaper items have lower reliability. They require repairs more often. Sims can also get uncomfortable mood buffs when cheaper items are used in their house. When there are no other options, these items are the least expensive from different categories inThe Sims 4build/buy mode.
12The Yum Cooker (Used) - $235
Along with apartments and penthouses,The Sims 4: City Livingintroduced a variety of low-budget options for players and their Sims who are strapped for cash. For example, those on a strict budget may settle forThe Yum Cooker (Used)for 235 simoleons. There are some visible dents and dings and missing dials, but it’s clearly been well-loved. And it works!
The original Yum Cooker from base game content costs 400 simoleons, so players are getting a 40% discount by purchasing a slightly used version. Sure it means sacrificing food quality and reliability, but it is functional off the grid and has a low power consumption rating.
11Crisponix Budget Dee-Lux (Used) - $215
Another excellent option for a low-budgetCity Livingapartment is theCrisponix Budget Dee-Lux (Used)refrigerator for 215 simoleons. It may sound like a lot of money considering that it’s missing paint, shelves, and drawers. For the cheapest fridge in the game, it still does its job of keeping food cold just fine. Thankfully, players can still use it tocook every recipe in the game.
The base game crisper-less Crisponix Budget Dee-Lux normally costs 375 simoleons, so players should consider taking advantage of the 160 simoleon discount, even if it means the fridge breaks more often and the food inside goes bad quicker.
10Craft Toilet - $55
If Sims aren’t interested in taking care of business in 50-simoleon party bushes from several DLC packs, they can ditch the scratchy twigs for aslightlymore comfortable toilet. Sims whomaster the handiness skillhave the opportunity to craft theCraft Toiletfor 55 simoleons on the woodworking table. TheCraft Toiletis made of dark wood and is relatively reliable, considering its cheap price tag.

Thankfully this toilet doubles in value after being created, so Sims can sell it for a profit and enjoy better quality toilets.
9Country Cottage Dining Chair - $15
There’s a clear reason why thisCountry Cottage Dining Chaircosts only 15 simoleons. If it looks like it’s been slapped together with a few uneven pieces of rotten firewood and some rusty nails, that’s because it is. Even Goldilocks would pass on this chair.
Although it may be a little lackluster, this chair is good for a few things. Older-looking furniture is sometimes more authentic to players' storylines and gives builders the opportunity to create more rustic and unconventional designs. It looks like it would go great with theWestern-styled items from theHorse Ranchexpansion. Perhaps this chair is a hand-me-down with sentimental value?
8Bunny Book Sandwich BookEnds - $10
This item is a total steal. Sandwiched together by two bow-tied bunnies, the 10-simoleonBunny Book Sandwich BookEndsacts as a bookcase, giving Sims easy access to the same books as the most expensive bookcase in the game.
According to its item description, thisCottage Livingfurnishing was created by Hare Care Products Inc. It fits great with any living or study room and helps players perfectly capture the cottage core vibe for their builds. Also, it could be the perfect Bunny Day gift for a bookworm Sim.
7Pile Of The Sims Daily - $10
Now this one seems a little unreasonable. For 10 simoleons, players can purchase thePile Of The Sims Dailyfrom theCats & Dogsexpansion pack. It is exactly what the title describes: a pile of newspapers that act as the cheapest rug in the game. The description in buy mode describes that it doubles as a place for pets to go potty, but it is not functional for these reasons.

Players can get a clean pile of newspapers or a variety ofusedoptions. Paying any amount of money for a pile of old newspapers that have been peed on seems a little much.
6Ball! Ball! Ball! - $5
In this economy, it’s almost impossible to find pet toys that are both durable and inexpensive. WithThe Sims 4 Cats & Dogs, pet parents can buy any ball or chew toy for only 5 simoleons. Even better, they’re made from biodegradable materials. Of course, this means that the toys will need to be replaced when they are all chewed up, but the cheap price makes it an easy purchase.
Choose from a variety ofBall! Ball! Ball!toys, or opt for squeaky toys like the burger, unicorn, or bird. After recent expansions haveleft cats and dogs in the dark, it’s important to care for and spoil Sim pets. Besides, they don’t know how much their toys cost.
5Yummy? Synthetic Food Rug - $5
This buy-mode item seems a little strange. TheYummy? Synthetic Food RugfromThe Sims 4: City Livingis a collection of plastic food scraps to decorate kitchen floors. Priced at 5 simoleons, this product is designed to look “scrumptious,” although it doesn’t seem to look it.
Players looking to create a fixer-upper with a dirty kitchen andgrungy teenager’s bedroommight find this food rug useful. It is, however, less expensive than the pee-stained rug. Sims in poverty may take the deal on this rug to improve their Sims' environment.
4Chute Chute - The Trash Chute - $0
With theChute Chute - Trash Chute, Sims can throw away everything but their money because it is completelyfreein buy mode.Originally created for university dorm room students, this trash chute fromThe Sims 4: Discover Universitycan be placed on the walls of any building. Sims never have to take their trash to the curb again.
There are some downsides to owning this free trash chute. Trash can occasionally get jammed into the chute and Sims must repair it or call a repair service to use it again. Thankfully, the object can be upgraded so that the chances of a jam are reduced.
3Scratches On The Wall - $0
It seems fair that players don’t have to use any of their Sim’s simoleons to pay forScratches On The Wallin the paintings and posters category of buy mode. The Sims 4developers put a lot of work into cats and dogs to make them realistic. They behave (and misbehave) just like furry friends in real life.
Cats, for example, canscratch furniture if they are untrainedor bored. Sims with naughty kittens might choose to display their training battle scars in the homes or apartments. It can also give a “distressed, urban chic” look to any home.
