The 1988 fantasy adventure filmWillowstarred Warwick Davis as the eponymous Willow Ufgood and Val Kilmer as Madmartigan and found the kindly Willow mixed up in an epic quest to protect an orphaned baby girl he has found. Directed by Ron Howard with a story by George Lucas, the film has been a long beloved fantasy, with fans always wishing there was more.
Now 30 years later, the film is getting a continuation in the form of a series from Disney+. The series seesWarwick Davis reprise his roleand Willow now serves as a mentor to a young hero called Kit, played by Ruby Cruz. Joanne Whalley also reprises her role from the original film as Sorsha. Just announced at the D23 Expo is a new cast member Christian Slater, in an unnamed role.

The new series from Disney+ debuts in November and the D23 panel for the show saw Warwick Davis introduce the cast along with a surprise new announcement Christian Slater.SlashFilmreports that as yet not much is known about Slater’s character but that he is an old friend of Madmartigan. The show will premiere on the streaming service on November 30 and along with the new casting news and release date, a new full trailer has finally been revealed. You can watch the trailer below.
The epic new trailer shows a new quest beginning for the sorcerer Willow as Kit and her friends hunt him down for aid. Sprawling countryside and horseback ridesbring to mindLord of The Ringsand the footage seems to retain the feel of the original but with an updated look. There are trolls, strange creatures, and frightening villains who ask Willow how he thinks he will defeat them. The Nelwyn sorcerer proclaims “the same as last time, with my friends.”
While the trailer doesn’t offer a look at Slater’s character it does showcase the rest of the cast. Joining Davis, Cruz, Whalley, and Slater are Erin Kellyman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson in theSpider-Mantrilogy). Executive producer of the series Jonathan Kasdan also stated that while Val Kilmer was unable to participate in the series due to his battle with throat cancer and theCovid-19 pandemic, his character of Madmartigan has a large part to play in the overall show. The series debuts on Disney+ on November 30.
