NetherRealm Studioshas kept relatively quiet since it announced that active development onMortal Kombat 11had ceased. BecauseInjustice 2left on a wide cliffhanger, and based upon NetherRealm’s history of franchise title releases being hand-in-hand with one another, fans had assumed that athirdInjusticeinstallmentwould be in development next.
However, a rumor has surfaced that is out of left field for NetherRealm, and it has yet to be confirmed or denied. Regardless, the supposed leaker has accumulated in-depth detail aboutNetherRealm’s alleged next title, which will almost certainly come as a surprise to fans of the studio if it eventually proves to be true.

Posting from a “burner account”, hugeleakeractually claims thatNetherRealm’s next game, potentially titledMultiversus, will be a tag-based platform-fighter with characters from a sweeping variety of franchises and cartoons, such asThe Lord of the Rings' Gandalf andThe Flintstones' Fred Flintstone. Admittedly, this rumored leak sounds like an absurd hodgepodge of franchises and fighting game mechanics. But though the leaker states that their sources are kept secret due to privacy and safety concerns, hugeleakeractually appears to confidently support the leak’s authenticity.
Interestingly, hugeleakeractually proposes thatNetherRealm’s departure fromMortal KombatandInjusticewould marry the platform-fighter mechanics ofSuper Smash Bros. orNickeloden All-Star Brawlwith tag-based systems from traditional fighting games such asMarvel Vs. Capcom. Familiar characters such as Batman would apparently return alongside Johnny Bravo, Tom and Jerry, and Shaggyas characters that the leaker says are confirmed forMultiversus.
Indeed, hugeleakeractually states thatMultiversus' origin was birthed from the meme ofShaggy debuting intoMortal Kombatas a guest character, which NetherRealm had entertained. But because Shaggy would not be included inMortal Kombatfor logistics around licensing in such a violent game, Warner Bros. may have considered other options for games where different crossovers could occur. Perhaps the most salient argument toward this game being legitimate is that hugeleakeractually mentions “Warner Bros. loved the idea of combining their properties and establishing more Warner crossovers.” This would make sense, as hugeleakeractually notes that this mindset also resulted inSpace Jam 2’s emphasis on multiversal crossovers.
Harry Potter and Ron Weasley are allegedly considered for the game, though hugeleakeractually states that may have been a joke, or they heard they may not make it into the game due toWarner Bros. licensing issues. Further, hugeleakeractually provides a link to a supposed trademark forMultiversusunder Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., though even hugeleakeractually is uncertain whether that trademark is for the same IP or not.
Multiversus' fighting game grab-bag and the details supporting its existence have yet to be substantiated by any reputable sources, however. As such, until other announcements are made that corroborate it, the leak should only be observed as a rumor at this point.
