The world ofCyberpunk 2077is certain to be rich and vivid in its dystopian vision of a future entrenched in corruption and technological marvels. And these marvels include Cyberware technology, which comprises much ofCyberpunk 2077’saesthetics and storytelling.
Cyberware inCyberpunk 2077can be organized into a number of different categories, generally. In short, Cyberware is defined as any cybernetic technology that is inserted onto or into the human body to serve a particular purpose. These are different fromCyberpunk 2077’sBioware, which are biological enhancements.

It is not fully confirmed or clear yet as to how these different types of Cyberware will be segregated or categorized in the game, given there is some overlap between some of them. For example, whether a Cyberweapon is always different or separate from a Cyberlimb inCyberpunk 2077remains to be seen. Also, many of the following examples of Cyberware are present inCyberpunk 2020, but may not necessarily be present inCyberpunk 2077’sNight City.
Implants
Implants are usually small in size, and they defined as such through their insertion inside one’s body. Each implant performs a specific task to improve a player’s particular stats or improve a skill.
While it remains to be seen all thatCyberpunk 2077will offer,Cyberpunk 2020’sroleplaying game includes a variety of implants that provide abilities such as breathing under water for a certain duration, voice synthesizing, utilizing internal adrenal boosters through the insertion of an artificial adrenal gland, Subdermal Armor that is inserted under the skin, and much more.
Body Plating
Unlike Subdermal Armor, which is considered an implant, Body Plating is external armor that covers over one’s skin, usually made out of particular plastics or metals. The armor has pores which allow the skin to breath and sweat. It is made for those who want strong defenses forquests inCyberpunk 2077, but will not do much for strength or speed.
Body plates also include mounting capabilities for extra armor and other features, such as sensors and cyberoptics. The types of body plates available are categorized and segregated by body part, such as the Cowl body plates, which cover the skull. Additionally, body plates can be attached to exoskeletons as well, which are called Linear Frames.
Neuralware and Links
Neuralware, as its name suggests, is a type of cyberware that provides the middle-link between one’s central nervous system and cybernetic devices. These usually increase existing abilities by amplifying stats by increasing the communication between the neural system and the cybernetic device. This type of module is inserted using nanotechnology and is grafted into the spin, where it releases microscopic nano surgical units along the column which attach the nerve endings of the host to the neural processor.
These can provide many advantages to players, such as increasing awareness intravelingCyberpunk 2077’smap, and providing Links, which are a particular type of Neuralware which translate a device’s signals into the relevant neural signals. Links can provide the ability for one to control vehicles, tap into the internet using one’s mind through Cybermodem Links and operate other forms of machinery or technology with the mind.
Cyberlimbs
Cybernetic arms and legs, hands and feet, give people a moderate boost in various strengths, though they will not provide super human strengths such as being able to lift significantly more. These robotic limbs will, however, provide more endurance, higher defenses, more damage output and the ability to leep higher than normal. Cyberlimbs will likely prove to be a major component ofCyberpunk 2077’sprogression system.
There are different types of Cyberlimb technology as well, such as Hydraulic rams, which are bulkier and more tank-like, and are commonly found among cyberware with Soviet origins.

Cyberweapons
Cyberweapons can be mounted directly on or under one’s body, as well as mounted on Cyberlimbs. They are commonly mounted underneath the skin, allowing forstealthy combat inCyberpunk 2077, and quick ways of taking out foes. Examples include carbo-glas fingernails that are razor sharp, implanted fangs, and Wolvers, which are long blades that pop out of the back of one’s hand. Cyberlimbs also have the ability to pop out a concealed hand gun when necessary.
InCyberpunk 2020, it appears that most of the Cyberweapons that fit directly into one’s organic body are mostly melee-based weapons, while the Cyberweapons mounted on Cyberlimbs are long-range weaponry. However, this trend could entirely change inCyberpunk 2077and may not be the same case.
Fashionware
Fashionware is all about being cosmetically fashionable and looking good. These include tattoos which light-up, contact lenses which change color based on mood, ChemSkins which change the color of one’s skin, strobe implants, and much more. Fashionware will likely be present in exotic ways inCyberpunk 2077’susage of adult themes.
Cyberoptics
Cyberoptics are fixated on eyesight, providing the ability to achieve infrared eyesight, record video with their eyes, and zoom in on whatever they are looking at.
Linear Frames
InCyberpunk 2020, Linear Frames are essentially exoskeletons on the outside of the body. There is evidence that this technology will exist inCyberpunk 2077, though this exoskeleton-like technology will likely have reached new milestones since then, and resemble a different Cyberware product than inCyberpunk 2020.
Cyberaudio
Cyberaudio technology integrates itself with the auditory nerve system, as well as the areas of the brain that interpret speech. This technology can allow people to speak directly with their phone systems, pick up on different transmission signals to detect radio bugs, amplify hearing and assess stress in people’s voices in order to test for lying.
At first, it would appear this type of Cyberware is fairly one dimensional and specific, but given the broad nature of speech and communication, this technology allows for some fairly diverse abilities.Cyberpunk 2077will release in September, and is expected to include a robustplayer customization system inCyberpunk 2077,which should fully enable utilization of the Cyberware technology.
Thus far, it’s generally understood thatCyberware upgrades will be very costly inCyberpunk 2077,and players will be able to demo the equipment before deciding to fully purchase and stick with it.
Many of thegangs inCyberpunk 2077are also infamous for using particular Cyberware types, or lack thereof. The world of Cyberware, as it manifests in Night City, will finally come to life in just a few months when players can finally get a hands-on withCyberpunk 2077’stechnology.
Cyberpunk 2077will release on September 17 on PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. PS5 is likely as well.
