It’s hard to emphasize how important being well-rounded is inDarkest Dungeon 2. Any character with a single weakness, whether its low defenses, stress gains, or positional rank difficulties will find that enemies will exploit whatever the issue may be. The Flagellant is so flexible that the character truly doesn’t have any single weakness.

This isn’t to say that the Flagellant is easy to build and excels at everything. The truth is the opposite. If players aren’t careful with how they build the hero, the character can be one of the easiest to kill inDarkest Dungeon 2and have moves that simply don’t impact the game enough to make a difference.

Skills

More! MORE! should be strongly considered for every build as it is the only way to generate the unique Pain token for automatic healing. After that, it’s all about having moves that deal damage to the Flagellant (Punish and Acid Rain) to get the extra power from being under 50% health.

To avoid death, players will need to offset this self-inflicted punishment with healing. Necrosis hits the entire enemy team and heals by 5% per enemy hit so long as opponents have blight, which this build will accomplish easily. Sepsis also deals damage and heals to 45% with the hero path. When these fiveskills have been upgraded, the Flagellant won’t need a healer.

Path

Whenunlocking and choosing a hero path, it’s wise to consider the overall build. A Flagellant that wants to intentionally have Toxic meltdowns will find Scourge is the way to go. The Flagellant does have less problematic meltdowns than other party members but they are still overall very bad. The Maniac gives up Blight damage for other benefits but that’s a pretty large drawback.

Exanimate gives the Flagellant extra power when his health is under 50% which should be most of the fight. With plenty of healing options and self-damage choices, this should be an easy task. With this path, the hero is now a primary damage dealer without losing their frontline or self-healing capabilities.

Trinkets

The penalty for Indelible Emancipation is a weakness to bleed damage effects but damage over time effects are the least lethal ways to get the Pain token from the More! MORE! skill. The tradeoff is extra damage at low health and the ability to steal positive tokens with Punish.

AsOrdainment levels growwith harder Confessions, extra stacks of blight effects become noticeable. Indelible Galvanizing Goblet adds more blight with each blight-adding effect. This creates a direct upgrade to the Flagellant for all its damaging moves.

Combat Item

While the Flagellant’s meltdown is less problematic than those of other classes, the issues are still there. This build intentionally tries not to accumulate stress but some stress applied by enemies or argumentative teammates is unavoidable.

Having Mineral-Rich Spring Water heals the Flagellant when things get dicey and will take off three stress levels. The entire advantage to the hero is not requiring healers or supports to babysit him. Mineral-Rich Spring Water further enhances this strength.
