Behaviour Interactive continues to provide robust post-launch support for its live service multiplayer horror game,Dead by Daylight. Seasonal content updates with new Killers, Survivors, Story, and microtransactions aren’t the limits of Behaviour’s support, either. The developer continues to iterate onDead by Daylight’s core gameplay systems, promising in June that specific changes would be coming later this year. Unfortunately, Behaviour has now had to delay some of those planned Year 7 changes, tellingDead by Daylightplayers to expect them in 2023 instead. The two specificDead by Daylightquality of life improvements that have been delayed into 2023 are the “Wiggle Escape System” and “Gameflow Improvements” features. These are just two of many promisedquality of life changes toDead by Daylight. Other changes include a visual update toDead by Daylight’s main menu system, streamer mode, bots in custom matches, and the addition of pre-set loadouts. These other features all remain on track as previously announced for Year 7 ofDead by Daylight.RELATED:New Dead by Daylight Patch Rolls Out, Includes Tome 12The Wiggle Escape System feature is particularly disappointing and quite odd forDead by Daylightto be delaying. AsDead by Daylightplayers know, theWiggle system, which allows Survivors to escape being carried by a Killer, badly needs improvement. Not only is it not particularly well-designed, but it poses accessibility concerns. Behaviour has a replacement system that it experimented with akin to its Engine mini-game. But it seems the system is less of a priority than others for the time being.
The planned Gameflow Improvements have also been long-awaited byDead by Daylightplayers. The idea behind Gameflow Improvements is that players will be able to queue up and then browse other pages in the menu system while waiting for matchmaking.Dead by Daylightmatchmakingwon’t just lock up the game. It’s not strictly necessary, just useful, and so understandable why Behaviour might deprioritize it.
Behaviour’s official explanation for the delay is so that it can “do them justice,” as in additional development time is necessary to deliver the experience the developer wants. Given the scope of Behaviour’s plans forDead by DaylightYear 7, it’s somewhat unsurprising that it won’t be able to get to everything it wants to so quickly. These will hopefully be the only delays, but it’s possible more will come.
The previously announced release window forDead by Daylight’s Wiggle Escape System and Gameflow Improvements was autumn 2022. The updated release window for both features is Q1 2023. Three months of delay should be more than understandable forDead by Daylightplayers. Expect further updates in the months to come.
Dead by Daylightis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
