Summary

Asymmetrical multiplayer games have really grown in popularity over the last few years, andDead by Daylighthas played a large role in that recent surge. Pitting four Survivors against one Killer,Dead by Daylight’s gameplay loop changes dramatically depending on which team the player is on, and that’s helped to keep the game fresh for seven years now. Of course, as is the case with any good ongoing multiplayer game,Dead by Daylighthas also stayed popular thanks to its consistent stream of updates, each new Chapter bringing with it at leastone new Survivor and Killer.

Themost recentDead by DaylightDLC ChapterbroughtAlien’s Xenomorph to the game, along with Ellen Ripley, and a map based on the wreckage of the Nostromo ship. Though its Killer is a tad OP right now, thisAlienChapter is just the latest in a long line of excellent crossover DLCs forDead by Daylight, encompassing characters from across the horror genre. But rather surprisingly, it’s actuallyDead by Daylight’s own original Killers that are usually the most scary to face.

Available straight after players have completed the tutorial,Dead by Daylight’s Wraithis by far one of the most intense Killers in the game. While his design isn’t overly terrifying, and his animations are fairly standard, it’s Wraith’s ability to go completely invisible that sets him apart from the rest. If players aren’t paying close attention to their surroundings, it’s easy for them to be caught off-guard by a Wraith just coming out of invisibility, and if the Killer has any add-ons that reduce the time it takes to uncloak, then a hit is almost guaranteed.

Dead by Daylight’s Doctor is horrifying in every sense of the word. From a visual standpoint, The Doctor is incredibly creepy, with a metal helmet peeling back his mouth and eyes to give him a permanent grin and eerie stare. The Doctor’s ability is just as scary as his visual design, giving him the opportunity to break down his enemies' psyche with electric shocks. After building their sanity meter, Survivors will start hallucinating The Doctor in front of them during a chase, and upon repairing a generator, its QTE dial will start to move across the screen.Dead by Daylight’s Killersare very rarely able to spook veteran players, but The Doctor is one that strikes fear into the heart of just about any player.

PerhapsDead by Daylight’s biggest risk-rewardKiller, The Nurseis able to teleport through walls and obstacles. Naturally, this can lead to a ton of jumpscares, with players being completely safe, and then being ambushed out of nowhere by a screeching Nurse that’s just phased through the walls and appeared behind them. While The Nurse requires a lot of skill to be truly successful, even the most ineffective Nurse Killers can get a good jumpscare or two out of players.

Though his base game appearance is nothing too scary, it’s The Dredge’s multiple powerful abilities that make him one ofDead by Daylight’s most cursed Killers. For starters, The Dredge has the ability to teleport to any locker on the map instantly. Dredge can either use that to ambush unsuspecting players working generators, or very rarely, even pull Survivors into the locker with him. But that’s not all. After filling his meter, Dredge can activate Nightfall, which plunges the entire map into complete darkness for the Survivors, only giving them a sight of about a meter in front of them. Even a simple chase with Dredge can be a terrifying ordeal if Nightfall strikes.
