While the weapons featured inDeathloopare the pretty standard “shotgun, pistol, sniper” affair, the game’s arsenal feels unique thanks to its stylish presentation and the game’s implementation of the DualSense controller. It might seem like certain weapons are inherently better than others, especially in the early parts of the game, but at the end of the day, Arkane Studios was able to pull off a feat that isn’t easily accomplished by many first-person shooters: every gun is a viable option to be used inColt’s mission to take out all eight of Blackreef’s Visionaries.

The milage that each player gets out of every weapon depends on a few factors. There are three different tiers of items inDeathloop: grey, blue, and purple which will have greater abilities depending on how rare the item is. Trinkets can help mod guns to be absolutely broken killing machines, but this list won’t necessarily be taking all of those combinations into account unless otherwise specified.

It’s easy to understand why these three weapons are some of the most used in the entire game. The Heritage Gunis extremely versatile in close and long-range as it can transform from a heavy-hitting shotgun to a rifle that packs quite the punch. The Constancy Automatic takes some getting used to, but as it can continuously fire while being reloaded, it’s the go-to handgun for many people who are all out of options and need to shoot their way out of a situation. The Strelak 50-50 might as well be called the “Julianna Killer” as it fires two shotgun blasts simultaneously and is the perfect killing machine to take out enemy invaders at close range.

One of the other legendary weapons, the Sepulchra Breteira is perfect for getting to know distant areasthanks to its long-range scope. Thankfully, it’s extremely deadly from afar as well, but unfortunately, it can’t be silenced and, once the player is familiar enough with Blackreef, becomes a little bit irrelevant as it isn’t needed past a certain point to scout out unknown areas.

The MG-1 Pepper Mill is great forshooting through a large crowd of Eternalistsbut takes a while to reload and is often outclassed by the one-handed Limp-10 which can be dual-wielded. The problem with both automatic weapons, however, is that the recoil is essentially unmanageable without the proper trinkets to reduce it. The Tribunal pistol is one of the most versatile in the entire game and, if the player can easily line up headshots, can be used to breeze through most areas.

Although it might bethe first legendary weapon that players encounter inDeathloop, the Strelak Verso is one of the least useful. Like the Heritage Gun, it has two discrete forms: one where the two handguns fuse together to create a burst rifle, and the other has Colt holding the two guns in his hands also firing in short bursts. The bursts make the Strelak Verso wildly inaccurate and disorienting in a firefight, sometimes resulting in an untimely death. The gun is still highly deadly but certainly comes at a cost. The PT-6 Spiker is the only weapon that’s silent in every form, but it isn’t any good in an open firefight as each nail needs to be charged up before firing and it gets outclassed as soon as Colt finds any silenced version of the various other weapons on Blackreef. It’s useful in the first few hours of the game, however, and allows the player to rely on stealth to get around as they work on mastering the other mechanics.

It’s easy to underestimate the Vopat Trencher as it’s a pretty typical pump-action shotgun, but it’s deadly at close range and is one of the first weapons that Julianna unlocks at the start of the game. As a result, a high-tier Vopat Trencher can end up in the hands of the player pretty early on, however, it’s quickly eclipsed by the Strelak 50-50 in terms of raw firepower. That said, Colt reloads each shell individually into the Trencher meaning that he can transition quickly from reloading into unloading, while the 50-50 has a set reload animation that takes quite a while unlessthe “Speed Reloader” trinketis equipped.

Despite the fact that it’s featured prominently in most of the marketing material for the game, the Fourpounder is one ofthe most inconsistent weapons inDeathloop. It functions as the standard hand-cannon/revolver that many games feature, but is largely inaccurate when firing from the hip while on the run. It can certainly take an enemy down if the shot connects, but the gun requires a little bit too much work to master when there are other, easier handling weapons at the player’s disposal. The same could be said for the Rapier, the common sniper rifle found on the bodies of Eternalists around Blackreef.

The Rapier doesn’t have a scope and only some versions of it have increased zoom, so it’s not terribly effective when other options for taking out Eternalists are available. What’s more, the fact that it only houses one round in its chamber before needing to be reloaded makes it the slowest firing weapon in the game. It’s quickly outclassed bythe Sepulchra Breteira which is available to players in the early hours of the gamemeaning that they’ll rarely find any use for the Rapier.
