Destiny 2: Lightfallseems to be missing its main, original gear set. Bungie’s latest flagship offering has not gone down well in many respects, and while the DLC still compares favorably to the game’s oldCurse of OsirisandWarmindexpansions, it needed to follow up onWitch Queen’s high marks, which was no mean feat. It seems that not all of its problems have been spotted just yet, however.
A rumor has it thatDestiny 2: Lightfallis just filleruntil Bungie can properly produce next year’sFinal ShapeDLC, and the game’s community is finding more and more signs that substantial portions of the expansion were cut ahead of its release. With a rushed main narrative that fails to explain its most important beats and no new core activity armor sets, for example, things are not looking up.

The latest problem withDestiny 2’s new DLC, by the looks of it, is thatLightfallis missing a full set of gear that was prominently featured as part of its pre-release marketing campaign. Numerous CGI trailers and official artwork have shown unique weapon models that fit in with the core aesthetic of Neomuna, but stand apart from the location’s baseline weapon set. In fact, these same weapons can also be spotted on the DLC’s campaign mission selection screen. Featured are the prominently shown hand cannon, a sword, a light machine gun, and a rocket launcher, with the break-action grenade launcher only visible on the pre-launch marketing materials.
Curiously, these are all depicted alongside one ofDestiny 2: Lightfall’s repurposedShadowkeepweapons, implying that the two sets were meant to coexist in some sense. Since the post-campaign content ofLightfallis still unraveling, some believe that there’s more to come from the DLC down the line. It’s worth noting, however, that datamining efforts have uncovered no trace of an additional gear set, implying that the aforementioned weapons simply aren’t coming.
While there’s an argument to be made thatDestiny 2: Lightfall’s hugely negative reviews on Steamaren’t necessarily warranted, it’s clear that something’s gone awry during the DLC’s production. It’s quite unprecedented for Bungie to have commissioned a comprehensive set of artwork with what looks like a set of fully designed weapons, only to scrap the whole thing. A future update may indeed come bearing this kit.
Whether the new weapons launch as part ofDestiny 2’s Seasons 20 and 21or not, however, the community’s disappointment withLightfallis already palpable. A single missing set of legendary weapons wouldn’t make or break a major new DLC’s release, but as it currently stands, this new problem simply compounds the rest of the release’s many issues.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
