The launch of a new expansion brings with it a new raid toDestiny 2, and Bungie has given players a new glimpse of the next raid coming insideLightfallwith its official name and when it will go live for the start of the world’s first race. On the narrative side, the raids have been home to some of the biggest secrets and revelations inside the game’s lore as was seen inVow of the Disciplewith the introduction of Rhulk and another Worm God. The world’s first race, by contrast, brings players together in one of the biggest weekends of the game’s year as hundreds of fireteams look to conquer the newest challenges Bungie has to throw at them.Lightfallis set to be a major turning point inDestiny 2with the arrival of the Witness and its long awaited confrontation with the Traveler in the space above Earth. Vow of the Disciple hinted at what was coming with its prophecy wall early in the raid such as the Witness communing with the Traveler, which players got to see small glimpses of inLightfall’s launch trailer and ViDoc. Players will join the conflict, traveling to the hidden city of Neomuna to hold back the Witness' invasion being led by his newest disciple, Calus, in a race to find a powerful artifact hidden in the city.RELATED:Destiny 2 Lightfall Update Patch Notes Reveal All the Changes Coming With the Big ExpansionAhead ofLightfall’s February 28 release, Bungie has given players a new glimpse of the next raid and its name, which was revealed as The Root of Nightmares. The studio shared an image from inside the raid showing six guardians standing in a place which appears similar to the inside of the Pyramid ships, though this one is overgrown with strange, wild plantlife. Little else is known about the raid other than the briefdescription onLightfall’s official webpage, hinting at an ancient threat “growing at our doorstep.”

Bungie then confirmed the raid would be going live at 9AM PST/12PM EST on March 10, ten days afterLightfall’s release. As with every raid sinceGarden of Salvation, the raid will be opening on a weekend to encourage as many players as possible to jump in for its first weekend. Unlike previous raids, though, Contest Mode will run for 48 hours rather than the previous 24-hour period so players who may not be able to play on the first day will still get to experience the mode’s challenge.

As for what the raid may entail, the title could provide a hint as to who the central boss of the new raid could be. The lore for Season of the Haunted andSeason of Plunderrevealed Nezarec, a character Bungie has teased for years, was a disciple of the Witness and linked to the Moon’s Nightmares. In turn, it led to speculation Nezarec could be coming to the game in some form to either aid or oppose the Witness. That said, it remains speculation as of this writing and players will have to wait for the raid to go live to see for themselves.

Destiny 2is currently available PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
