Summary
Destiny 2is set to conclude its long-running Light and Dark saga, with the release of The Final Shape expansion in 2024. According to developer Bungie,The Final Shape will bring an end toDestiny 2as players know it, wrapping up a story that began with the launch of the original title in 2014. Additionally, it will end the title’s three-month seasonal structure, favoring an episodic approach that replaces the seasonal quest lines with story acts that players can approach at their own pace. With all of the changes coming toDestiny 2with the release of The Final Shape, fans will have a ton of new information to keep track of. For this reason,Destiny 2needs to implement one major quality-of-life feature ahead of The Final Shape.
Destiny 2is among gaming’s most popular live-service franchises and has been since the series' launch in 2014. Most recently, the title released the Lightfall expansion, which set the stage for the guardians' climactic final conflict with The Witness. Having succeeded in capturing The Veil and opening a doorway into The Traveler, The Witness has the forces of light truly devastated, and desperately searching for a way to follow the villain inside.Destiny 2’s current season, Season of the Witch, seeks to bring an end to that search, quite literally opening the door for the events of The Final Shape to take place.

Destiny 2 Players Suffer from a Lack of Clear Communication
Destiny 2The Final Shape will introduce a host of new features, gameplay systems, and events to the already crowded title. As it currently exists,Destiny 2features rolling weekly objectives, highlighted dungeons, highlighted raids, and unique Nightfall missions, all of which players are informed of with a quick notification screen once per week. In fact, this screen is the most direct communication that currently exists between Bungie andDestiny 2players within the title itself. For all other announcements, players must hop onto another device to check the @Destiny2, @Bungie, or @BungieHelp pages on X, aka Twitter, a process that complicates players' ability to remain up to date with important information.
Destiny 2players are expected to check one of the various Bungie profiles quite often, as announcements regarding upcoming features, buffs, nerfs, and special events are almost exclusively revealed via X. Most importantly,Bungie announces updates toDestiny 2serverdowntime and maintenance periods via its X pages. Should a player fail to remain up to date, they could be logged out, or kicked, from the game in the middle of an important mission, raid, or seasonal activity with no warning. The weakness of this system was thrust into the spotlight as recently as last week, whenDestiny 2suffered a series of DDOS attacks, leading players to encounter a myriad of issues with no stated cause or communication from developers in-game.
Destiny 2 Should Implement a Clear Line of Communication Before The Final Shape
Bungie’s continued reliance on social media as a primary means of communication will only complicatethe launch ofDestiny 2The Final Shapeand its many unique features. As the series wraps up its first major story arc and seasonal format, it is absolutely paramount that a clear means of tracking announcements and developer changes is made available to players. Luckily, the means of providing such a service already exists within the game itself. Through leveragingDestiny 2’s Director and Guardian interfaces, Bungie could easily communicate announcements, as they happen, to those currently logged into the service.
Implementing announcements could be as easy as adding a new tab toDestiny 2’s Director. Players would be able to access a list of announcements, listed in chronological order, with the simple tap of a button. Even if the tab just congregates posts from the @Destiny2 X page, it could get information in front of a larger group of players, and at a much faster rate. AsDestiny 2’s Light and Dark saga winds down, fans look to the future. To invest in the impact of that future, Bungie needs to implement a greater level of transparency in-game.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
