Summary

With the brand new exotic Skimmer now live in game,Destiny 2players find a lot to love with this vehicle showing off what it can do. It was a big week inDestiny 2, with the highly anticipated Update 7.3.5 finally launching after weeks of teases and explanations from Bungie. The patch makes massive sandbox changes to activities like the Crucible, while also tweaking weapons, exotics, and abilities.

However, the biggest piece to this week’sDestiny 2reset is the return of Guardian Games. While this year’s version of the event features many familiar gameplay mechanics, players can obtain a limited amount of Diamond Tier challenges per week, which Bungie calls game changing for how much they are worth. For many players, however, the most exciting aspect to Guardian Games AllStars is the introduction of a new exotic vehicle, a jet-powered hoverboard called a Skimmer, allowing players to pull off tricks as they’re zipping around and also using their equipped element type to grind rails. The vehicle has become a big hit with players who have begun posting all sorts of content showing off what the board can do.

The board itself has seemingly taken manyDestiny 2players by surprise after unlocking it permanently. Numerous Destiny 2 subRedit threads have started popping up singing the vehicle’s praises as many believe it is all around a better sparrow thanks to having multiple ways to increase speed, not just through boosting. Some have used the Skimmer in unique ways to clear enemies, see how far they can travel over large expanses such as Strider’s Gate in Neomuna, while others have tested what’s possible like one user who discovered that the hoverboard can be Strand gappled to pull a teammate across long distances.

Destiny 2 Players Push Boundaries with the Skimmer

While some players have simply used the Skimmer to have a bit of fun, others have taken this vehicle to push the limits of what’s possible in the game. Fans have been known to find tricks for skipping Destiny 2 encounters or finding movement shortcuts, so with a powerful new vehicle to mess around with, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see players pushing the game. One player named Alyx on Twitter posted a short clip of using the Skimmer to go out of bounds in the Deep Stone Crypt. Others have noted that the addition of the Skimmer will likely break a lot of the sparrow sections currently in the game, including the community named"Rainbow Road" section within the Prophecy Dungeon.

It’s clear that the Skimmer is going to be a big piece of Destiny 2 going forward for many fans, and with one alternative option in the Eververse store, it’s highly likely that Bungie will be introducing more variants in the future. Players will be using the new hoverboard during Guardian Games to help complete missions and challenges, unlocking medallions that can be banked at the Tower to help their class. For those who want to see and do everything, they can complete the fullDestiny 2event card and unlock the Champ title for 2024.
