Bungie has confirmed thatDestiny 2is about to receive one of its biggest, most meta-shifting mid-season updates yet, which has the potential to deliver some of the things that the community has wanted for a good long while now. With a substantial array of weapon buffs and rebalancing passes on the way, this particular patch is hugely important for the future of the game, even though it seems rather unassuming at a glance. In most games, an update that ends up simply tweaking some weapons' damage output and statistical information wouldn’t be a headlining topic, butDestiny 2’s massive mid-season updatecould be nothing short of monumental. Its main focus is to make primaries useful in PvE content again, with auto rifles getting a massive 25% damage boost, for example.RELATED:Destiny 2 Animation Explains the ‘Cruel and Horrifying’ Story of Calus' LeviathanOne ofDestiny 2’s biggest issues in recent years has been how its content has been getting more and more difficult, while regular weapons simply haven’t kept up with the pace of the meta. This may well change the week of April 17, which is when the big mid-season update is slated for launch. While the full patch notes are yet to be revealed, Bungie did announce that most Legendary-tier Primary weapons will get substantial buffs. Auto rifles will be getting the biggest bump up, but pulse rifles, hand cannons, and sidearms will all get a hefty 20% damage buff. Scout rifles, which already compare favorably to the aforementioned weapon classes in endgame-tier content, will also receive a 10% damage buff.

It is worth highlighting that Bungie hasn’t yet specified which day the update will be coming out, though. It’s likely that it will release alongside the weekly reset, on April 18, but it may also end up getting pushed back to April 20, as the game’s hotfixes do sometimes come out on Thursdays. Regardless, the update is coming out next week, and it is certain to bolsterDestiny 2: Lightfall’s impressive popularityeven further.

The fact that Bungie is reacting relatively quickly to issues that sprung up withDestiny 2: Lightfall’s difficulty increaseis a good sign overall.Destiny 2’s weapon classes only rarely receive such big damage buffs, which means that the game’s meta is bound to restructure over the coming weeks and months, with many previously useless weapons getting brought up-to-par with SMGs and bows, for example.

It goes without saying, however, that as promising as this new mid-season update may be, it won’t resolve some of the game’s biggest problems. The community recently highlighted howDestiny 2’s competitive PvP has a serious issuewith reverse boosting, painting an entire game mode’s worth of content with a problematic brush. Simple weapon buffs won’t resolve this, but odds are that Bungie will eventually get to looking into such issues, too.

Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
