Ever since the originalDigimon Adventureaired, the Digidestined children had many amazing journeys during the past 2 decades. Now thanks to therebootedDigimonanime, fans can watch Tai and his friends explore the Digital World for the first time again. But so far, the series has slowly introduced each Digidestined before having them join the team and the latest episode follows the same trend with Mimi’s arrival.

Mimi Tachikawa is one of the youngerDigidestinedat age 10 and is a 4th grader at the start of the series. She is partnered with Palmon and later on becomes the Crest of Sincerity’s wielder. Because of her sheltered upbringing, Mimi may seem selfish but in reality is caring and honest to a fault. While Mimi’s personality and mannerisms haven’t changed much in the reboot, the circumstances in which she first met the other Digidestined greatly differ from the source material.

In episode 6, Mimi appears after Tai, Sora, and their Digimon are captured by Palmon who believe they were trying to steal fruit from a village of Tanemon. As it turns out, Mimi is their “Queen” and has been protecting the Tanemon from a group of Tuskmon. Once Tai and Sora agree to help Mimi defend the village, Tuskmon under Ogremon’s control attack. Fortunately, the 3 children and their partner Digimon manage to drive the villain away with the power of theirDigivices. Afterwards, Mimi and Palmon leave the village in the Tanemons' care and officially join the group.

Mimi’s role as queen of the village directly parallels one episode in theoriginalDigimon Adventurewhere she was treated as a princess. Compared to then, however, Mimi comes off much more sincere in how she truly feels. This can be explained as Mimi better embodying her crest’s theme, which is purity or sincerity, in her actions like promising to protect the Tanemon village after seeing her grandfather helping others. As a result, Mimi doesn’t seem to have the spoiled side to her nature which was a recurring issue in the first series.

Although the problems from that side of Mimi’s personality have been skipped over for now, there’s always a chance that the anime is just moving elements around and it will be addressed later on after the battle withDevimon. Furthermore, Mimi has only met Tai and Sora in person so far and seen a hologram of Izzy. If their originalDigimoninteractions are anything to go by, Izzy and Mimi could end up butting heads when forced to work together in the future.

With Mimi’s anime entrance, there are only 3 more Digidestined left to appear and the next episode’s title seems to heavily hint at Joe Kido’s debut along with hisDigimonpartner, Gomamon.
