Ever since the announcement of the remake ofResident Evil 2back in 2015, many players have been wondering which other games in Capcom’s long list of franchises will be reimagined in modern platforms. Of course, it’s now known that the Japanese developer and publisher is currentlyworking on the remake of the classic 1999 gameResident Evil 3. Taking it a step further, it appears that fans are now eyeing theDino Crisisfranchise, which has been lying dormant for several years now to get the remake treatment that has currently given another life to several titles in theResident Evilseries.
To the uninitiated,Dino Crisisis one of Capcom’s survival-horror franchises that spawned out of the success ofResident Evil. The franchise had good momentum with the successful release of the first two main games. However, the franchise lost its appeal with the release ofDino Crisis 3that made a major departure from everything that was established by its predecessors.TheDino Crisisfranchise now continues to remain dormantand hasn’t released a single game for 17 years.

Yet, it appears that interest in the long-forgotten dinosaur survival horror franchise has been growing for the past couple of years. Of course, this is largely fueled by the successful release ofResident Evil 2remake and the highly-anticipated launch ofResident Evil 3remake this year. The question now is, how likely is it for Capcom to revive theDino Crisisfranchise? Right now, Capcom still hasn’t confirmed anything related toDino Crisis. However, the revival of what was once considered to be the nextResident Evilis not at all unlikely, and here are the reasons why it could be happening sometime in the future.
Capcom Renewed Dino Crisis' Trademark
At the end of 2019,Dino Crisismade headlines once again after reports confirmed thatCapcom has renewed the trademark for the gameand for other classic titles in its arsenal. The renewing of trademarks is standard practice for most developers, though, and doesn’t always mean that the company intends to do anything with it. However, this is still a step in the right direction, especially since Capcom has been vocal about its plans to produce more remakes and remasters of its vast library of franchises.
Rumors About Dino Crisis Remake Continues To Spread
Speculations about the possibility ofDino Crisisseeing the light of day once again has been consistently persistent for several years now. However, it appears that these rumors continue to become more convincing given that people who have successfully made predictions about unannounced games have started to chime in. Several days ago, Twitter user AestheticGamer, who accurately leakedResident Evilnews in the past, teased the possibility of aDino Crisisremake.
According to the Twitter user, Capcom is planning to reboot several of its games that are “in the same vein” as theResident Evil 2and 3 remakes. Long-time Capcom fans would know thatDino Crisiswas born out of the success ofResident Evil, and the first-everDino Crisisgame was even released in between the original versions ofResident Evil 2and 3. Although the rumor may pertain to other franchises under Capcom’s belt such as theOnimushaseries, there is really no game that is as close toResident EvilasDino Crisis.

Capcom Is Very Much Open To The Idea
Back in 2017, even before the release ofResident Evil 2remake, fans have already been bombarding Capcom to develop a remake or a sequel to theDino Crisisfranchise. While nothing concrete has materialized since then, Capcom still acknowledged the growing interest for a revival ofDino Crisisand even teased that it is a viable prospect for the company.
When a fan asked Capcom about the possibility of aDino Crisisrevival, not many were expecting Capcom to issue a response given that the franchise has not seen a new game for more than a decade. However, Capcom did respond to the question and revealed thata sequel or a remake ofDino Crisiscould happen"if a lot of people wish". Of course, now that conversations aboutDino Crisiscontinue to grow with the successful release ofResident Evilremakes, then Capcom’s promise is definitely a step in the right direction and would hopefully lead to the revival of the dormant survival horror franchise.
The Success of Resident Evil Remakes
Just like any other business, a huge factor for a video game developer to pursue something is whether a certain project will turn a profit and garner widespread appeal, and it is evident that Capcom struck gold by remaking some of its iconic games. A perfect example of this is theResident Evil 2remake, which was released one year ago. Immediately after its launch, the re-imagining of the 1998 classic survival-horror game was an instant success that it evenoutsold the originalResident Evil 2.
Looking at the long-term, it won’t be viable for Capcom to just keep remakingResident Evilgames. This is why the logical next step, at least for the company’s pursuit to remake its old catalog, is to look for other franchises that may benefit from the same success asResident Evil. And while Capcom has a lot of games that deserve the remake treatment,Dino Crisisis one of the strongest contendersthat could replicate the success ofResident Evilremakes, which is basically history repeating itself.
