A new video takes a closer look atElden Ring’s giant crayfish enemies and shares a disgusting revelation. It’s unfortunately accurate that taking a closer look at any ofElden Ring’s enemies often leads to a hidden disturbing truth. FromSoftware loves to reward those willing to look closely at the work its down. Unsurprisingly, the crayfish that have become infamous for their powerful grabs and cross-world ranged attacks also have a secret that will makeElden Ringplayers grimace.
Giant Crabs have a long history of being frustrating enemies to deal with inDark Soulsgames. Deciding to experiment some, apparently, FromSoftware added Giant Crayfish toElden Ring(alongside Giant Crabs). The Giant Crayfish are most typically found in the swampy region ofLiurnia of the Lakes, in soggy dungeons, or similar locations. They can hide in the water and leap out when approached, or linger in groups. They’re fast, do a lot of damage, and are best avoided.

In Zullie the Witch’s latest video, she does what many brave adventurers in theLands Betweenare unwilling to do. She takes a closer look at the Crayfish. She first points out that some Crayfish enemies have eggs underneath their tails. She mentions that there’s an AI routine for these Crayfish with eggs, but it’s unused, so it acts the same as a normal one. Zullie’s second discovery is much more unsettling, though.
SomeElden Ringplayersmay recall a red-eyed version of Crayfish that’s particularly large and aggressive. A closer look at these reveals a wriggling mass underneath their belly. Upon close inspection, it’s a mass of worms twisting together. Zullie says they could be parasites for the Crayfish, perhaps based on the real-world lungworms that tend to infest actual crayfish.
The infestation of worms in the Crayfish could explain why they have red eyes, as if they’ve been driven mad. There’s no other clue besides the fact that these Crayfish dropSmithing Stoneswhen defeated. Infestation and corruption are two common themes inElden Ring, so the Crayfish worms add to the idea that there’s something deeply wrong in the Lands Between.
One especially disturbing theory stemming from Zullie’s video has to do with the NPC,Blackguard Big Boggart. Boggart sells Boiled Prawns to the player, and later Boiled Crabs. While he doesn’t eat or sell crayfish, it begs whether what he cooks is infected with something similar – and whether cooking it gets rid of all the infection. That tasty treat could be corrupting the player.
Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
