Being a streamer might be a dream job for many gamers. That’s true for the popularTwitchstreamer Emiru, who described it as such afterjoining the streaming and esports organization One True Kinglast year. Unfortunately, her newfound stardom has had some significant downsides for the 24-year-old streamer, prompting her to take a break from the platform.

Fortunately for her fans, Emiru is once again streaming onTwitch. She talked about her temporary departure during her first stream back yesterday. During the stream, the successful Twitch streamer revealed that she’s still struggling with issues from her experience dealing with stalkers.

The Kansas-born Emily “Emiru” Schunk began her Twitch career in 2016, but the cosplayer andLeague of Legendsstreamer only really broke into the big leagues late last year. Unfortunately, her fame also attracted the wrong kind of attention in the form of a stalker, which led to her moving in with fellow OTK streamer Mizkif. Additionally, many fans expressed concern about her mental health last year, forcing Emiru to address the issueduring a stream in December. While she downplayed the situation at the time, Emiru’s recent comments indicate that she was having more trouble than she was willing to let on.

“There was some s*** going on that was really bad,” said Emiru during Monday’s stream. She mentioned that the situation was severe enough that law enforcement needed to get involved. Emiru explained that she knewother Twitch streamers faced problems with stalkersand kept streaming regardless. She wanted to do the same, but that meant she did not have time to process what she went through. “I didn’t think I would say this,” Emiru said, “but since… probably like October, when like, the s*** happened that caused me to move here, I’ve just like, not been doing the best.”

Emiru went on to explain how she tried to power through her problems at first. However, the stress continued to pile up even as the streamer did her best to keep it under control. Eventually, it reached a point where she started worrying that she might have a nervous breakdown live on stream. Fortunately, Emiru eventually realized she needed to take a step back from Twitch and seems to be much better after returning from her break.

Unfortunately, Emiru’s experience is not entirely unique. As she noted, other successful streamers such as Pokimane, xQc, and Destiny have had to deal with stalkers of their own after obsessed fans started taking things way too far. OfflineTV memberLilyPichu even criticized Twitch last yearfor the platform’s lack of response to her online stalking. Hopefully, Emiru doesn’t have to go through anything like that again, but it seems to be a distressingly common problem for those who make their livelihoods on Twitch.
