With February around the corner, it is not long now until the release of FromSoftware’s newest IP,Elden Ring. A lot of information has come out about the game this month owing to its imminent release date. The most recent news is regardingElden Ring’s interesting choice of collectible items.
Not too long ago Hidetaka Miyazaki of FromSoftware stated thatrings would strangely not be equippable items inElden Ring, as they will instead be unique items that are involved in the story and character events.Elden Ringwas recently rated by ESRB and through this rating, it was revealed that severed fingers and tongues will be collectible items. This is rather interesting as these severed fingers and tongues may possibly be collected from defeated bosses as opposed to souls in theDark Soulsgames.

The rating also revealed some interesting information about a boss battle in the game, as it states that the game will include a depiction of a boss character cutting off its arm. Perhaps, the most interesting news to come out regarding the game recently is the fact that FromSoftware PresidentHidetaka Miyazaki has stated that he will not playElden Ring. Miyazaki stated that he will not play the game owing to the fact that a big part ofElden Ringwill be exploration, which will, unfortunately, be spoiled for the creator considering the role he has had in its development.
Miyazaki also went into detail about howhorseback combat won’t be forced onElden Ringplayers. He went on to state that while the game’s ethereal Spirit Steed mount, Torrent will be an essential part of exploration, it will not be necessary to be mounted in order to fight any of the game’s bosses, mini-bosses, or other enemies. Fighting enemies on horseback while on foot may prove more difficult, although it is easily possible asSekiro: Shadows Die Twiceincluded a few mounted enemies.
George R. R. Martin also spoke of his involvement inElden Ringearlier this month. Martin stated that he only offered some insight into the worldbuilding ofElden Ringto help create a deep, dark, resonant world. It will be interesting to see if Martin is roped in to help with the worldbuilding of future FromSoftware titles or even possibleElden Ringsequels. Only time will tell if this is the case, however, it will most likely be based on the success of the anticipatedElden Ring.
