With the future ofStar Warsvideo games in the hands of Lucasfilm Games, it seems brighter than ever.EA’sStar Warsexclusivity contractwill end in just a couple years, and when it does, there could be an explosion of games in the years after that. EA, Ubisoft, and more could be putting out, hopefully, high-quality games with unique takes on the franchise. Reportedly, Disney and Lucasfilm Games are being quite aggressive with getting new games in development, but that still means they’re all at least a couple of years away.
While thefull impact of Lucasfilm Gameshas yet to be felt and won’t likely be until after EA’sStar Warscontract ends, fans still have quite a few games on the horizon. Many are confirmed, while some are just rumored for now. Either way, it’s looking to be a decent year with more on the horizon in 2022.

AnotherStar Warsgame said to release this year isStar Wars: Hunters. It’s an arena combat game, something similar toPokemon Unite. It is set after the fall of the Empire, with players taking on the role of bounty hunters, former Stormtroopers, and heroes of the rebellion, and a Wookiee warrior and female Sith also being shown. Unfortunately, the game has been silent since its announcement, but all signs still currently indicate a fall 2021 release.
A game known to be in development, though without a confirmed release date, is Ubisoft’s open-worldStar Warsgame. Jedi: Fallen Order 2was basically confirmed by EAat its recent earnings call, when it said it would continue to invest in the “Jedi: Fallen Order” franchise. Rumored List of Upcoming Star Wars Games
Gamers could throw a rock at aStar Warssocial media page, especially official channels, and find players begging for games. This mass demand indubitably turns into rumors with no backing, such as the constantly referenced but denied-in-2020Star Wars: Battlefront 3. In fact, thebiggestBattlefront 3rumoras of late was thoroughly debunked online. As such, with rumors, it’s always better to look at the source.
For example, aKnights of the Old Republicremake is rumored to be in development at Aspyr. It’s been in the rounds online and has been reiterated by many big names in the industry, though Aspyr itself has notably been quiet on the situation. It hasn’t confirmed or denied this, giving many fans hope, but the silence around it now is also a double-edged sword.KOTORremake or sequel rumors pop up every year, but hopefully, this one proves to be true.
One rumor, though less widespread, is that aMandaloriangame is in development. The leaker, Shpeshal_Ed, has proven reliable in the past and has accurately leaked things from multiple places in the industry, so it’s solid compared to many things online. Fans still have to wait, as nothing else was indicated, but that’s usually a good sign. Claiming to know too much is a telltale sign that the information is probably false.
At the end of 2020, a new rumor emerged thatEA was working onStar Wars: The Force Unleashed 3. This came down from Disney insider Daniel Richtman to his Patreon backers, but despite this, the claim seems rather dubious. While popular, the second game is over a decade old. It could be the first two games are remastered andThe Force Unleashed 3finally wraps and canonizes the story told so long ago, but of all the rumors here, this seems to be the most unlikely. Ergo, fans should take it with a hefty amount of salt.
Yet another rumor indicates that an upcomingStar Warsgame would be exclusive to Microsoft platforms. Given the company’s recent moves with acquisition and deals, a day oneStar Warsgame on Xbox Game Pass would make a lot of sense and would be a big win for the company. If it’s one of the rumored games or a new game altogether remains to be seen. The latter makes the most sense, as out of the biggest rumors and confirmed games, onlyThe Mandalorianwould seemingly make sense in this context.
