Summary

Fallout 4’s average load times have decreased considerably on the PS5 after the game’s next-gen patch. The recentFallout 4patch has been controversial since its release, but it’s not without its perks for current-gen gamers, as shown by this change.

Released last week, theFallout 4next-gen updatewas eagerly expected by the game’s community, as Bethesda promised several improvements to the post-apocalyptic open-world title. Some of the changes introduced in the update include Widescreen and Ultra-Widescreen support for PC players, new armors, weapon bundles, several bug fixes, and Performance and Quality modes for consoles, as well as support for higher resolutions.

Now, gamers who playFallout 4on PS5 have been discovering another perk of the update: the loading times have been greatly reduced. In a chart shared by OliveOcelot on r/PlaystationPlus, it’s possible to see that load times forFallout 4were around 0:40 previously when using the PS4 version of the game on a PS5, and can be as quick as 0:15 in the PS5 release after the update. This was quite an improvement, as speed times have more than doubled.

Fallout 4’s Next-Gen Update Has Been Very Controversial

In the post’s comments, many gamers talked about how they didn’t understand why some gamers hated the update, as their experience has greatly improved. These opinions have a stark contrast with other opinions regarding the new update, though. Players from several platforms, including PS5, have been complaining constantly about the new update or finding new bugs. For instance, a player recently discovered that some ofFallout 4’s new weapons were shooting exclamation pointsdue to a hilarious glitch.

The Steam Deck version ofFallout 4specifically had a major problem, too. Due to the removal of the game’s launcher, the new updatepreventedFallout 4players from changing graphics on Steam Deck. While there’s an unofficial workaround currently working, fans were irritated that not only were some Steam Deck-specific issues ignored, but a new problem was implemented with the patch.

Overall, the situation for PC gamers is not very pleasant after the update. Someimportant mods forFallout 4stopped working, including the popular Script Extender, which has been used as the foundation of many other mods. It’s likely that the reception of the new update will continue to be divided, but at least it seems that people playing on consoles are finding fewer issues than PC gamers who use mods.
