The combat director ofFinal Fantasy 16, Ryota Suzuki, believes that the game’s protagonist Clive Rosefield can defeatDevil May Cry’s protagonist Dante. In the last couple of days, many staff members fromFinal Fantasy 16have been on a media tour to promote and answer questions about the upcoming game. This includes apreview demo ofFinal Fantasy 16, clarifying details about its combat and story, and revealing its playtime. One of the people who was interviewed about the upcoming RPG was Ryota Suzuki, the game’s combat director, who talked about howFinal Fantasy 16took an action-RPG styled approach to battles.

Ryota Suzuki was formerly a part of Capcom, working there for nearly 20 years before leaving to join Square Enix in 2020. His previous works include high-octane action titles, such asMarvel vs. Capcom 2,Devil May Cry 4,Dragon’s Dogma, andDevil May Cry 5, just to name a few. Considering this, it’s no surprise to see thatFinal Fantasy 16’s combat has elements ofDevil May Crywithin it. WithDMC5andFF16having the same combat director, it may spring to mind the question of who would win between the game’s two protagonists. Ryota Suzuki weighed in with his answer in a recent interview.

This question was put forward by Game Informer, where the interviewer noted he was a big fan ofDevil May Cry, and wanted the combat director’s perspective on who’d likely win. Suzuki stated that Clive would likely overcome the odds to defeat the demon hunter. It should be noted that he was accompanied by his two superiors,FF16director Hiroshi Takai and producer Naoki Yoshida, when answering the question, so there could be some slight bias behind the answer.

Suzuki justifies that Clive’s advantages could come fromthe powerful Eikons like Titan and Phoenix, as he can into their abilities to get an edge over Dante. The interviewer also followed up this inquiry with the question of who’d likely win between newDevil May Cryprotagonist Nero and Clive, to which Suzuki didn’t back down and answered “Clive” as the likely victor.

Final Fantasy 16’s combat is flashy in both boss battles and regular enemies. Fans will have a chance to try it out for themselves when the playable demo drops later this year.
