Fire Emblem Engageintroduces a brand-new feature to theFire Emblemseries with its Engage system. Alongside the usual somewhat complicated unit-and-weapon management, the Engage feature adds even more strategy toEngage. While more options are never bad, with so many Engage rings and brand-new units, it can be hard to know where to begin.

While players can and should experiment with what they personally like best, there are definite advantages to usingcertain Engage ringswith specific characters - for example, just one new playable character might benefit the most from one of the skills found in an Engage ring.
Updated on June 13, 2025, by Abbie Sharp:With further DLC for Fire Emblem Engage releasing after the publication of this article, revisiting to give further options for players that included the new DLC characters and their most optimal Engage ring pairings was definitely necessary!
As such, this update will include each new DLC Emblem available to play and will go into detail surrounding some great options for players to try out, and will also bring up some good choices regarding the new DLC units and their best Emblems, too.
Marth
Unsurprisingly, Marth is a great match with the playable character, Alear. From the number of cutscenes the two have together throughoutEngage, it’s pretty obvious that they were designed at least slightly around one another, and this reflects in their gameplay. Both are sword users, meaning they’ll sync well gameplay-wise, and Alear does a great job at maximizing the skills they can inherit from Marth, such as Divine Speed and Lodestar Rush. With the correct build, Marthcan turn Alearinto an absolute tank.
On the other hand, Marth is a very good all-rounder, making pretty much any unit pair with him a lot stronger. Kagetsu is a good option thanks to his automatic Swordmaster class, and Diamant can be decent too thanks to his proficiency in swords and his usefulness as a fairly tanky unit.
Celica
Celica is another character who is placed with a specific unit in a way that makes it at least a little obvious that the developers expected players to get some use out of the pairing. As such, she works very well with Celine for rather simple reasons: Celine is a Tome user and benefits massively from Celica’s boost in Mag and Res and her Warp Ragnarok Engage Attack.
That being said, Celica is also a very strong all-rounder. Because of her boost in Mag and Res, she’ll work very well with any Tome user - although units like Clanne and Framme are a bit of a waste for such a good Emblem, as they’re quite weak. Stronger Tome units like Ivy might work better; she benefits from the boosts mentioned earlier, and Celica’s Engage Skill, Echo, triggers Ivy’s Personal Skill, Single-Minded, making her a powerhouse. Lindon can also work here, as skills like Magic + make him into a prettyviable magical damagedealer.
Sigurd
Surprisingly, Sigurd is amazing when paired withpretty much any unit. Though the initial assumption may be to pair him only with other cavalry units, Sigurd should be paired with anyone who needs a boost in mobility. Healers, tanks, cavalry units, or fliers - if players have a specific unit that really struggles to find its footing, Sigurd can be the Emblem that completely changes their gameplay.
As such, one of the best units to pair Sigurd with is Louis. Louis is one of the best tanks in the game, and players will receive both Sigurd’s Emblem ringandLouis as a recruit very early in the game. By pairing the two together, players can make every level far easier by mobilizing Louis - particularly Great Knight Louis - as a hard-hitting, far-reaching tank.
For later-game players, Sigurd is also a great choice with Fogado. Fogado is a great Archer unit, especially if players move him into the Cupido class. With Sigurd’s Emblem ring, players can use Fogado to wipe out tricky airborne enemies - often a big risk to weaker characters with low Res - and then get back out of harm’s way. That being said, any tanky unit - like Diamant or Vander - will benefit from being paired with Sigurd. Similarly, even healers like Clanne can use his mobility to their benefit.
Leif
Leif’s role inEngageis to help the player’s units last as long as possible. He does this by allowing units to tank more hits with his Synchro skills, which work to make sure the unit will take less damage and have higher Defense. As well as this, Leif encourages follow-up attacksandfirst-hit attacks, meaning he’s perfect for units like Jade and Diamant.

Though tanks like Jade and Diamant definitely benefit the most, other units like Saphir and Alear also work pretty well with Leif, as the high dodge chance from Leif makes them incredibly strong characters thanks to the counter-attack play style that Leif encourages.
Roy
When it comes to Roy, pairing him with Alfred is an absolute must. They work together great - Roy allows Alfred to tank more hits from the frontline thanks to his Skill Hold Out as well as giving him a lot more mobility on top of his already-great range. Plus, Roy and Alfred share a primary weapon - Swords - meaning that Roy’s inherited skills canadd a huge buffto Alfred’s Sword attack as well as his other useful stats, such as Atk.
Since Roy is similar to Leif in how he’s great at helping units tank hits, he also works for other tanks. Another tank he works with especially well is Diamant - Diamant is another Sword user, meaning he’ll benefit from Roy’s shared weapon and the skills he has that focuses on that. Hold Out is also a skill well worth inheriting on Diamant, especially as it can pair really well with inheritable skills from other Emblems, such as Ike.
Lyn
Lyn goes amazingly with Alcryst, and the two should definitely prioritize placing these two together as soon as they can. Lyn works best with units that stay away from the front lines, making Archer units like Alcryst the perfect match for her. On top of this, Lyn’s Skill Alacrity can help Alcryst attack twice before the enemy has the ability to counterattack. With this, players can wipe out enemies as fast as possible with a very low risk of being countered. Match this with Lyn’s Speed buffs on top of Alcryst’s already great Speed growths, and the two become a total powerhouse.
If players aren’t interested in pairing Alcryst with Lyn, though, characters like Mauvier, Kagetsu and Ivy are also pretty good options. Both will benefit hugely from Lyn’s Speed buffs aiding their ability to dodge enemies, and her Skills can buff both their attacks and defense, too.
