Summary

Rockstar Games is always daring and bold in the content they create. With titles likeGrand Theft AutoandBully, they aren’t afraid to ruffle feathers with their grisly subject matter.

Playing through thebest Rockstar Games, one will encounter a variety of characters who are rough around the edges. Sometimes these characters are the main playable characters. Other times, they’re ruthless villains who are either dominant parts of the storyline or relegated somewhere to the background.

Earthworm Kim from Earthworm Jim 3D

These background antagonists often don’t get the credit they deserve, which is too bad. Often, the forgotten villains in Rockstar Games are the ones doing all the dirty work.

If a game was published by Rockstar, its villain will be considered.

Virgil in The Warriors game

8Earthworm Kim

Earthworm Jim 3D

Fans ofEarthworm Jimwill likely remember Psy-Crow. However, many gamers forget about Earthworm Kim who shows up in the finale ofEarthworm Jim 3D.

In the game, Jim is scared that his ultimate fate is that he’s going to become a girl. With so manypowerful female villains in video games, it’s a shame that Earthworm Kim wasn’t taken more seriously. The game playfully mocks gender stereotypes by having Kim demand Jim’s credit cards and having him make cracks like “Must fight…feminine side…must protect masculinity.” Ultimately, Kim is more of a punchline than she is a formidable foe.

Leland Monroe in a business meeting, L.A. Noire

Based on the 1979 movie of the same name,The Warriorsis was published by Rockstar Games in 2005. Virgil, leader of a gang called the Destroyers, is the villain in the first half of the brawling action game.

To take out Virgil, players need to be stealthy and work their way through a warehouse. Virgil is found under an ironic “DESTROY” sign, and the objective is to “Finish him for good!” Glass bottles are available on the floor to throw as weapons, but be careful because Virgil will throw Molotov cocktails back.

Piggsy charging at James Earl Cash, Manhunt

Rich characters are often villainous and sadistic. Leland Monroe firmly belongs in that group, being a particularly evil corporate villain fromL.A. Noire. Many might remember the gamefor its gloomy atmosphere and unlikeable cast of characters, but not necessary for Leland.

Monroe is a real estate mogul and the founder of Elysian Fields Development, the main setting of the game. Because of his influence, he’s a master liar and manipulator; a man who has caused many to turn to corruption.

Jack Lupino standing with shotgun, Max Payne

This little piggy went to the market, this little piggy stayed home. This little piggy inManhuntwields a chainsaw and goes on to eat his slaughtered victims.

Lionel Starkweather is often talked about by fans, but it’s his porcine henchmen who is truly frightening.Manhuntis often on the list ofscary video games, and it’s because of creepy characters like Piggsy. He’s an overweight human man who seems inhuman because of the skinned pig’s head he wears as a mask. Piggsy is taken out in the game quickly, so fans forget just how horrifying it is to encounter this Rockstar Games villain.

Derby Harrington in Bully game

When players think ofMax Payne, they likely remember the main antagonist, Nicole Horne a.k.a. “The Witch.” Jack Lupino, the underboss of the Punchinello Crime Family, isn’t usually given a second thought.

However, don’t underestimate Jack’s role in the game. This tattooed gunman is directly responsible for distributing a drug known as Valkry under orders. While Jack is merely a gear in the bigger wheel, Max still blames him for his friend’s death. Ultimately, this results in Max taking out henchmen and facing off against Jack in aquick boss battle.

Miguel looking scared, Grand Theft Auto 3

Gary Smith is the main antagonist ofBully,so few gamers remember Derby, the arrogant leader of the Preppies.

With his sweater vests and slicked back hair, it’s obvious that Derby comes from a wealthy family. He is introduced in the game in Chapter 1, keeping a low profile until he sends his crew to fight Jimmy in a boxing match. After losing, Derby does all his dirty work from the sidelines, blaming the Greasers and evoking riots.

Professor Perry holding Miracle Elixir, Red Dead Revolver

Catalina is one of the mosticonicGrand Theft Autovillainsof all time. It’s no wonder why Miguel, who also appears inGTA3,is often forgotten about by fans.

Miguel only appears in a few cut scenes in the game before he is shot and killed by Catalina. As a ruthless drug dealer with many others above him, Miguel is essentially disposable. He’s not nearly as intimidating as his superiors, which is why he often gets left out of conversations about the franchise. Still, fans won’t get their final glimpse of Miguel inGTA3.He appears as a minor character again four years later inGrand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.

With less than two minutes of screen time in the game, it’s easy to forget all about this villain in Rockstar Games. He is the final boss of the mission “Freak Show” inRed Dead Revolver.

Play in Showdown Mode to play as Jack Swift and come across Professor Perry and his evil circus, which includesvicious clowns, freaks, and other misfits. The goal is to take down Perry and his freak show to protect the sheriff’s daughter. This is no easy task since Perry has created a miracle elixir that gives him the power to regenerate his health, regardless of how often he’s shot.
