Chapter 3, Season 2: Resistance has arrived, and it has brought with it an unexpected change to how people will playFortnite. The ability to build has been removed from the game. This disadvantage will be counteracted with the introduction of an Overshield that will protect players on top of their base shield and health bar. This confirms recent rumors ofthe introduction of a “no-build” mode, with Chapter 3, Season 2 finally introducing such a feature. It should be noted that building will remain in arena/competitive modes, along with Team Rumble and Creative Islands.

The new movement abilities will likely ally the Overshield in compensating for the lack of protection that building usually offers players. The default speed has been increased, with sprinting allowing players short bursts at an even faster pace. In addition, mantling will allow players to jump at a ledge, grab it, and pull themselves up, adding to the verticality of the game while building is absent. Mantling is quite a fitting addition toFortnitein the weeks afterNathan Drake arrived at The Islandin the build-up to theUnchartedmovie hitting theaters.

The new season will also add Doctor Strange and Prowler to the Battle Pass, along with the ability to drive an armored battle bus. In addition, this is far from the first time that Marvel characters have made an appearance in the hit game asSpider-Man was the previous superhero to be added toFortnitebefore Doctor Strange and Prowler joined the roster.

Season 2: Resistance will also advance theongoing story on The Island. The new installment of the story asks players to join the Resistance and take part in the final battle against Zero Point.

Fortniteis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
