Fortniteis always trying to keep things fresh. Beyond the fairly brisk pace of its seasons, which bring about drastic changes themselves, the free-to-play title regularly rolls out updates in between, altering everything from POIs to NPCs, quest lines, weapons, and more.Fortnite’s most recent update unvaults the long-dormant Impulse Grenades, which some may need a refresher on as to how they work exactly.

First introduced in the second-ever season ofFortnite, the Impulse Grenade is a throwable item that launches players and vehicles caught in its blast radius. The item functions similarly tothe popular Shockwave Grenade item, except that they do not negate fall damage and (at least the last time they were unvaulted) do not affect friendly players.

Where to Get Impulse Grenades

As of August 12,Fortnitehas officially unvaulted the Impulse Grenade, which can now be found on the island.Impulse Grenades are part of the common loot pool, meaning they can be found in Chests, Supply Drops, and on the ground.

How They Work

As mentioned before, Impulse Grenades are used to launch players or vehicles in virtually any direction. Like Shockwave Grenades, Impulse Grenades do not cause damage, making them more of a tactical item than an actual weapon.

Detonating quickly upon landing, skilled players can utilizeImpulse Grenades to get some seriously devastating eliminations.

Categorized as a Rare item, players shouldn’t have too much difficulty tracking some Impulse Grenades down and can stack up to nine in a single item slot.

While Impulse Grenades may be the only item unvaulted, it isn’t the only thing making a return.Fortnite’s UFOs have reappeared on the island, finally giving Chapter 3, Season 3, a flying vehicle. Also called Saucers, the spacecraft was first introduced during the alien invasion-themed Chapter 2, Season 7. Unlike Impulse Grenades, UFOs/Saucers only spawn in six specific locations on the map, likely making the vehicle a hot commodity.

Fortniteappears to be on a streak of unvaulting long-dormant throwable items. In addition to bringing back Impulse Grenades,Fortnitehas also unvaulted Junk Rifts. Not seen since the battle royale title’s first chapter, Junk Rifts are throwable items that spawn a rift above the location thrown, dropping a large inanimate object.

The item obliterates any structures in its path, making it a useful weapon against build-happy opponents. Re-adding both the Junk Rift and Impulse Grenade opens up some dynamic gameplay, allowing players to employ some additional takedown methods other than a straight-out firefight.

Fortniteis free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
