There are a ton ofGenshin Impactitems, and it can be difficult to keep track of them all. Characters and weapons both require a whole host of item combinations to ascend, and characters also require particular items for their talent upgrades. These ascensions and upgrades require local specialty products, boss drops, enemy materials, trounce challenge rewards, and more.

Guide

Genshin Impact Boss Ascension Items

Regular bosses, which appear on the overworld and can be challenged as many times as the player would like, each drop a unique item needed for character ascension. It costs 40 Original Resin to obtain the rewards after the boss is defeated, so keep that in mind!

This section lists all of the regular bosses and their unique item drop, with links to our guides on finding and defeating them. These boss materials are always ★★★★.

Trounce Domain Talent Materials

While normal bosses are the source of items needed for character ascension, Weekly Trounce Challenges (or Weekly Bosses) are the source of character talent upgrade materials.

This section outlines each trounce challenge and the three items it can drop. The guides linked will help you defeat the boss (and unlock them if necessary)!

Other Ascension and Upgrade Items

Aside from the items listed above, there are a few more things a character will need to ascend and upgrade their talents. These include elemental gems, Mora, Crowns of Insight, and more. This section will list and outline each of these items, with guides on where to find them.

Ascension Gems

First up is ascension gems. These precious stones are each aligned with a particular element, and each character will need the corresponding gem to ascend. They come in four quality levels: Slivers, Fragments, Chunks, and Gemstones. On top of these, the Traveler needs a special set called Brilliant Diamonds.

This table shows each elemental gemstone and a link to our guide on where to find them.

Traveler

Every character needs the same quantity of each quality level, with the only difference from one character to the next is which elemental gem they use, based on their corresponding element. This table outlines how many are needed to completely ascend a character:

The Cornerstone of Stars and Flames

Pyro Traveler Talent Upgrade Item

Crown of Insight

Crowns of Insightare extremely rare items. They are used for the final talent upgrade from level 9 to 10, for every character. This means that, if the player wants to completely upgrade a character’s talents, they’ll need three Crowns of Insight per character. This is referred to as triple-crowning a character.

These super-rare items are found in a few ways, with the primary source being participation on flagship events (usually one per event). There are a handful that can also be earned by leveling up various devices or offering locations:

Additionally, as of Version 5.0, players can purchase one Crown of Insight each month for 50 Starglitter in the Paimon’s Bargains shop.

One Crown of Insight can also be earned by finishing Act 10 of Imaginarium Theater for the first time (it’s in the debut performance rewards).

Talent Books

Talent Booksare special items that are used to upgrade a character’s talents. Each nation of Teyvat has three “series” of books, and each character uses one of the series, except for the Traveler, who uses a combination of each region’s books for each elemental alignment. For example, Mondstadt has three series — Freedom, Ballad, and Resistance. Jean uses Resistance, Venti uses Ballad, and Sucrose uses Freedom, but an Anemo-aligned Traveler will use some of each.

These books come in three levels: Teachings (★★), Guides (★★★), and Philosophies (★★★★). As a talent is upgraded, higher-quality talent books are needed.

Here are all the talent books, which region they are from, and which days of the week they can be obtained. A complete domain schedule and guide is linked in the table above.

Like with the ascension gems above, here’s a table showing how many of each book quality level a character will need. Note that this is for one talent, so these numbers must be tripled for all three talents.

EXP Materials

These special books are used to level up a character and are known asEXP MaterialsorLevel Materials. They can be found in many, many different ways, including from chests, as quest rewards, and much more.

Here’s how much EXP each will grant a character when used:

1,000 EXP

5,000 EXP

20,000 EXP

Since a character needs a whopping total of 8,362,650 EXP to reach level 90, it takes quite a few of these books. There are various combinations of the three types suggested by different people, but briefly, this total works out to just over 419 Hero’s Wit!

When aligned with Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, or Hydro, the Traveler uses standard trounce materials for their upper-level talent upgrades. However, the Pyro Traveler works a little differently. Instead of using a trounce drop from a weekly boss, Pyro Traveler will instead use an item calledThe Cornerstone of Stars and Flames.

Furthermore, each talent will only require four of this item, instead of the six typically needed to fully upgrade each of a character’s talents. That is to say, a talent typically requires one copy of a trounce material to upgrade from level 6 to 7, then one again from level 7 to 8, two from level 8 to 9, and two from level 9 to 10, for a total of six. However, each of the Traveler’s talent upgrades from level 6 onward require only one copy of The Cornerstone of Stars and Flames. This means that there should be 12 obtainable copies by the end of the Natlan arc, but there are currently only ten available.

Hydro Traveler

Pyro Traveler (coming soon)

While most characters use their respective Stella Fortuna to level up their constellations, the Traveler works a little differently. These items are found in various ways, and are specific to each element that the Traveler can align with.

The above links will provide more thorough information on where to find these items, but here they are at a glance:
