While most of the games at today’s PS5 event arebeing shown off for the first time, Gearbox Software and Counterplay Games have been teasing the upcoming action-RPGGodfallfor a few months now. But with the new trailer that dropped during the event, fans finally have a good look at the game in action.

Described as a “looter-slasher,” the game has sounded like something designed to maintain Gearbox’s reputation for loot-centric games likeBorderlands, while also providing a fresh fix for fans of games likeDestinywherecreating and building up your own unique superpowered warrioris a major part of the experience.

When it comes to actually seeing what it’s like, however, fans haven’t had much to go off of outside of the reveal trailer, short GIFs on the official website, andleaked footage of an older version ofGodfallrunning on PC. While that painted a solid picture of what Counterplay is going for, it wasn’t completely indicative of what PlayStation fans will be able to experience on the PS5 later this year. With today’s official gameplay trailer, that has finally been addressed.

Over the course of a minute and a half, the trailer does a good job of putting the “slasher” in “looter-slasher,” showing off the fast-paced melee combat at the heart ofGodfall’s gameplay. From the looks of it, players, asthe last of the god-like Valorian Knights, will be able to tear through all sorts of enemies and intimidating bosses with the help of a wide variety of unique weapons and armor sets known as Valorplates.

As good as the trailer is at selling the vibe Counterplay is going for, it doesn’t go much deeper than that. That being said, only a few months remain before the game is out, so one can assume the developer will remedy that and go into greater detail about the game’s combat, its character customization systems, and theimpact loot will have on gameplayin the coming weeks.

For the time being,Godfall’s release window is still marked as “holiday 2020,” so it remains to be seen when exactly the game will be released, and whether it will be launching alongside the PS5 or in the weeks following its launch. As with the other details, though, that too will likely be revealed sooner rather than later.

Godfallwill launch this holiday season for PC and PS5.
