With an October release date looming,Gotham Knightshas been slowly unveiling more and more information to fans, and a lot of the marketing focus for the game has been recently focused on its characters. At San Diego Comic-Con, for example,Gotham Knightsshowed off new Batgirl gameplay, featuring the fan-favorite character taking down groups of enemies and gliding through the streets of Gotham. Now, alongside reveals for the playable characters inGotham Knights, the game’s background and story are also being given some attention with the announcement of a prequel comic.Batman: Gotham Knights - Gilded Citywill release alongside the game in October 2022. It will have six issues, releasing monthly, that tell fans the story leading up to the events ofGotham Knights. While some details are already known about the game’s premise, including thedeath of Batman,Gilded Citywill go into further detail around the events leading up to the Caped Crusader dying, along with the threat that Gotham will face in his absence.RELATED:Gotham Knights Has Weird Co-Op FeatureBatman’s last case before his death will revolve around an investigation into a virus being unleashed on the citizens of Gotham. It isn’t currently known who is behind this virus or even what it is called, but these details will likely be revealed either inGotham Knightsor its prequel comic. As well as showing Batman’s story,Gilded Citywill have a parallel storyline set in the 1880s. This historical narrative will revolve around a vigilante named Runaway, who is also investigating the virus.
It isn’t known how Runaway’s story will connect toGotham Knightsor how a virus first developed in the 1800s will return to the city in modern times. However, it is likely that this storyline will not only connect to the origin of the virus, but thehistory of Gothamas a city as well. Alongside giving fans a deeper look at the story ofGotham Knights,Gilded Citywill also grant some extra content to players with the release of each issue. For example, issue one gives fans a Batcycle skin, and other cosmetics items will come with new releases. Any player who collects all six comics will also receive a special seventh item.
Gilded Cityisn’t the only project connected to theGotham Knightsvideo game. ATV show also entitledGotham Knightsis in the works at The CW. Like the game, it will feature a story set off by the death of Batman. But unlikeGilded City,Gotham Knightsthe TV show will not release alongside its video game counterpart. Instead, the first episode is expected to launch in December.
