The CW has started making pilot orders for its 2022 cycle, and it looks as ifGotham Knightsis inching closer to a television release on the network. The CW recently gave a pilot order to the promising DC series, which started its early production phase in December.
Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash serve as writers for theGotham Knightsseries, each possessing relevant experience for their continuous work on the CW’sBatwomanseries. TheGotham Knightsseries focuses on characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, but it will come with unique iterations of its own.Gotham Knightswill not be attached tothe currentBatwomanseries, equally walking a different path from the upcoming similarly titled video game, but the overall premise embedded in the game will stay consistent in the series.

According to Deadline,Gotham Knightswill center around Bruce Wayne’s adopted son, who forms an unlikely alliance with the children of his father’s enemies when they realizeblame for Batman’s deathhas fallen on them. The unlikely team of misfits must fight to clear their damaged names, while Gotham descends further into the darkness with no Dark Knight to protect it. Hope, however, comes from an implausible source, as the team of heroic fugitives becomes the next generation of saviors of Gotham, hailing themselves as theGotham Knights.
The absence of Batman presents an interesting dilemma for the conflicting characters, who each must put their differences aside to reach a collective goal. Nocasting decisions have surfaced forGotham Knights, but one can anticipate developments to come as the pilot begins to materialize. If successful,Gotham Knightswould be the second series on the network housed in Gotham City, following behindBatwoman, which already has three seasons attached to its belt. Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions, the company responsible for the networksArrowverse, will produce the project.
Gotham Knights, however, wasn’t the only project given the pilot order for the CW’s 2022 cycle. The network looks to be taking a third leap intoSupernaturalspinoff waters, ordering a pilot forThe Winchesters, which hopes to meet a different fate compared to the previous two failed spinoff attempts. The CW also gave pilot orders toWalker: Independenceand the live-actionPowerpuff Girlsseries, which is being repiloted after Chloe Bennet, the show’s Blossom, stepped down from the role in August. In addition, the CW askedthe upcomingZorroseriesto provide six additional scripts to the network, which could signify a future of development, but nothing concrete is in stone yet.
The pilot order forGotham Knightsis promising, but more has to be done before the CW orders the DC project to series. The anticipation centered around the video game has been massive, and one can assume the same would be valid for the series.Gotham Knightswould add something different to the network’s DC catalog, but only time will reveal what the writers behindBatwomancan create.
