For manyHalofans, Bungie’s departure as the lead developers for the series was a bitter pill to swallow. While 343 has taken up the mantle for that franchise, Bungie has moved on to developing its first person MMO series,Destiny, a game which manyHalofans migrated to due to its similar sci-fi themes and signature Bungie gameplay. Although there is a lot of voice talent inDestiny 2, manyHalofans have certainly missed the iconic announcements of Jeff Steitzer, who thanks to a Bungiefan, has tried his hand at some ofDestiny 2’smultiplayer voice lines.
Jeff Steitzer’s voice may be one of the best known voices in video games, with every double or triple kill a player gets being inherently associated with Steitzer’s bass-y announcements from titles likeHalo 2and3. Up there with Fred Tatasciore’sUnreal Tournamentvoice lines, Steitzer has cemented himself as prominent part of multiplayer first person shooters, and luckily, has returned toperform the announcing for 343’sHalo Infinite, continuing his position as the announcer for every majorHalotitle to date.

In a response to a fan on Cameo, known as ‘Baguette, Eiffel’s Blade,’ Steitzer said that he was delighted that they were a fan of bothHaloandDestiny, as a lot of theBungie team from the originalHalogames had moved on to work onDestiny. Baguette had requested that Steitzer perform his own versions of some of the popular voice lines fromDestinycharacters Shaxx and Saladin, who do the announcements forDestiny 2’s multiplayer mode, Crucible. In the video, Steitzer knocks it out of the park, hitting lines like “I can feel that in my bones,” and “Zone A captured,” with all the power and full-toned goodness fans have come to expect from the voice actor.
Fans of both franchises seemed to congregate in the comments section, singing Steitzer’s praises for his incredible legacy as a voice actor and for the effort he put into his Cameo performance. Many were particularly enamored with Steitzer’s veryHalo 2reading of Shaxx’s “Deeee-lightful” line, which contrasts withWalking Deadstar and Shaxx voice actor Lennie James' sing-song performance. The video ends with Steitzer telling Baguette to stay “Unfrickenbelievable,” a call back toone of the toughestHalomedals to earn, and a fantastic Cameo sign off.
It’s certainly fantastic to hear Steitzer’s iconic voice tackling other game’s dialog, and wonderful to see that he has returned as the announcer forHalo Infinite. Most would agree that he has become an important feature of the multiplayer’s overall feel, and a change in announcer would be an unwelcome shift for many, especially in a game that islooking to change up some stapleHalofeaturesas it is. Infinite certainly feels likeHalo, albeit in-keeping with the modern take 343 has been producing sinceHalo 4, however, it is nice to keep some of the features that helped propel the series to success in the first place, such as Steitzer’s incredible voice.
Halo Infinitewill release in 2021, with a technical preview available now for Halo Insiders, running until August 2.
