Coming off of big blockbuster roles inZack Snyder’s Justice Leagueand now Netflix’s season 2 ofThe Witcher, actor Henry Cavill may just want to add another iconic franchise to his filmography, saying that he is always open to play James Bond.
After Daniel Craig’s emotional performance inNo Time to Die, which concluded his 15-year tenure playing Bond, the search for the next actor to fill the role has already begun, with many pointing to names like Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and of course,Henry Cavill. In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Cavill opened up about the possibility of joining the 007 franchise as the iconic spy, saying that there is definitely a chance since it’s still unclear which direction the producers will take the character in.

“Time will tell,” said Cavill. “You don’t know which direction they want to take Bond in and so I like to say that everything’s always on the table,” added Henry, who has not seen the latest Bond film,No Time to Die, due to his busy schedule. While no announcement will officially be made just quite yet, according to long time Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, Cavill will be tapping into the spy genre once again (which he did inThe Man from U.N.C.L.E.andMission: Impossible - Fallout) in a feature fromKingsmandirector Matthew VaughntitledArgylle. Based on the popular novel by Ellie Conway, Cavill will be playing the titular secret agent.
When asked about the similarities betweenArgylleand Bond, Cavill told , “It depends. We could be talking about Daniel’s Bond, or whoever the next Bond is… They will probably be in their 30s or 40s—or early 40s,” Cavill added. “Maybe they’ll even go younger, like they were considering with me when it was down to me and Daniel.” While Craig was cast in as the grittier James Bond, Cavill would find success later in his career starring asSuperman in DC’sMan of Steel.
While it will be no easier for Cavill to land the role as Bond today, as he will surely have some competition from other big names if he were to aggressively pursue it, Vaughn, who also directed Craig before he played Bond in 2004’sLayer Cake, believes Cavill was destined to play Bond. “I needed someone born to play Bond—which Henry is—and then to nick him before Bond did,” the filmmaker said ofcasting the actor in Argylle.
This isn’t the first time that Cavill has openly shared his enthusiasm for playing Bond. According to reports, it was in an interview last year with GQ where Cavill said he “would absolutely jump at the opportunity” if it presented itself. But now with his success withThe Witcherand filmingArgllye, it will be interesting to see if Cavill finds enough time out of his schedule to become James Bond. And judging by his excitement for the character, it appears that he will.
For now, fans can catchCavill in action in season 2 ofThe Witcheron Netflix.
