When The Pokemon Company announced that another specialPokemonevent would happen shortly after the previous, fans' expectations climbed very fast. After all, thePokemonevent last week saw the announcement of three newPokemongames including aPokemon Snapsequel. Now the latest event is over andPokemonis trending on Twitter again, but not for the reasons fans may have been hoping for. “Pokemon Sleep” and “Sinnoh” are the two trending terms, and neither because of a related announcement.

Pokemon Sleepis a game fromThe Pokemon Companyannounced mid-2019 that helps players track their sleep schedule. The game isn’t out yet and hasn’t been talked about since.Pokemon Sleepwasn’t mentioned today, either. At least, it wasn’t mentioned by The Pokemon Company. Rather, Twitter users were making fun of today’sPokemonevent being boring by saying that this is whatPokemon Sleep’s gameplay must be like.

To be fair, not everyone on Twitter was making fun of the stream andPokemon Sleep. Some were genuinely hoping to see the game again. Of course, Twitter users begging to see more ofPokemon Sleepover what was actually shown during the event is kind of an insult, too.

As for Sinnoh, it’s a similar situation to the well-intentionedPokemon SleepTwitter posters. Sinnoh is a region within thePokemonworld and serves as the setting forPokemon Diamond,Pearl, andPlatinum.Pokemonfans on Twitter had built their hopes up for a possible remake of Diamond and Pearl, a Switch version of the games akin toThe Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening’s remake. That didn’t happen, filling the Sinnoh trend with sad fans.

The general frustration that fans had is how heavily The Pokemon Company seems to be prioritizing mobile games over bigger console experiences. CorePokemonfans tend to want games like the main series ofPokemontitles. The Pokemon Company clearly sees more benefit in expanding into smaller, better monetizedPokemonexperiences while maintaining the current biennialPokemonmain seriesrelease schedule. Frustrations are bound to happen.

That said, what ThePokemondid announce during today’s event is still very interesting.Pokemon Uniteis a 5v5 multiplayer gamethat looks an awful lot like a MOBA. It’ll be free-to-start and can be played on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. It may not be aPokemon DiamondorPearlremake, and it may not bePokemon Sleepeither, but it’s certainly an interesting game to look forward to.
