Summary
Heroes of the Stormjust released a new balance patch on its Public Test Realm. These hero updates and bug fixes will likely go live in the iconicBlizzardMOBA proper within the next month or so.
In July 2022,Heroes of the Stormofficially entered maintenance mode, formally discontinuing any new content from being added to the game. Since then, Blizzard has periodically updatedHeroes of the Stormin the form of balance patches, bug fixes, and other similar tweaks.
Now, it seems like another such update is on the way. Blizzard revealed a set of patch notes for hero balance and bug fixes that isavailable to play on theHeroes of the StormPTRright now. Historically, these updates usually come between three and five weeks before they are implemented into the actual game, meaning players can expect these changes to go live in about a month.
This update introduced buffs for Qhira and Zarya, nerfs to Brightwing, Genji, and Samuro, as well as a slight horizontal change to one of Raynor’s talents at level 20. The patch also added tons of bug fixes, many of which seem to be related to how the Death Recap displays certain abilities and skills or how heroes are revealed when hit by certain skills.
ManyHeroes of the Stormfans were delighted to see the retired MOBA get a new update. After the game went into maintenance mode,Heroes of the Stormdidn’t receive updates for over a year. However, since the first one in November 2023,Heroes of the Stormhas gotten regular patches roughly once every three months, with this latest one being the fourth. Hopefully, the cult classic MOBA continues to get updates at a similar interval.
Microsoft completed its takeover of Blizzard in October 2023 – right around when theseHeroes of the Stormupdates began again. While there has been no solid evidence proving a correlation between these two events, fans of the game still hope it could be some indication thatMicrosoft has plans to reviveHeroes of the Storm. While doing so would be a popular and timely decision among the community, players shouldn’t get their hopes up unless Blizzard makes an official announcement about such a development. In the meantime, it seems like fans can take solace in the fact thatHeroes of theStorm isn’t truly going away any time soon.
