Among the returning characters is the traveling merchant Van, who veteran players of the series would know is the go-to guy to purchase records and record-player that would allow players to change the game’s background music whenever they are in their own farm.
However, inStory of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town,Van’s wares are not only limited to records given that he is also the only one that sells various species of animals that players can get as pets. For those interested in meeting Van, it is important to remember that he won’t be available at the very start of the game, given that players must complete a special condition first before triggering the event that would allow players to meet him.

To unlock Van, players must offer 30 liked/loved gifts to the Harvest Goddess. To the uninitiated, the Harvest Goddess is the powerful deity that serves as the guardian of Mineral Townboth in the remake and the original game. While the Harvest Goddess would be polite in receiving most gifts, players should know that there are offerings that she wouldn’t appreciate. However, as a general tip, the Harvest Goddess likes most crops grown by the player or flowers that can be found in the forest and mountains.
After offering 30 gifts to the goddess, Van will appear on the player’s doorstep during the first sunny Wednesday after offering the goddess their 30th gift. After this initial meeting, Van will be setting up his record shop in the Inn every Wednesday from 8 am to 9 pm and his pet store at the Rose Plaza every 15th of the month from 12nn to 6 pm. Apart from triggering the event that would let players meet Van,befriending the goddess also has tons of benefitsfor players starting out their new farms.

For Van’s Pet store, the in-game weather must be sunny or he will decide to stay at the Inn. It is also worth remembering thatthe type of pet players can get are more varied in the remakeand will change every season: Cats - Spring, Summer - Penguins, Fall - Dogs, Winter - Capybara. This means that if it rains on the 15th of Summer, players won’t be able to purchase a penguin as a pet until the 15th of Summer next year. Moreover, the player must have a friendship level of eight or more with all their current pets, before buying a new one.
