Earlier today, the Xbox Live Marketplace leaked the existence of aKingdoms of Amalur: Reckoningremaster, and now it’s been officially confirmed.Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoningis presumably coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 11, featuring remastered visuals and more.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoningis a remaster of the 2012 action-RPG that earned decent reviews but failed to generate much success from a commercial standpoint. The rights to the game were acquired by THQ Nordic back in 2018, after the conclusion of a long legal battle between thestate of Rhode Island, Curt Schilling, and the now-defunct 38 Studios. The remaster reportedly needed EA’s blessing to exist, so it seems as though an agreement was reached.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoningwill included remastered visuals, so it should look more visually impressive than the 2012 version. The game will also boast “refined gameplay,” though details on what that means exactly has yet to be revealed. It will also include all of the post-launch DLC that was released for the original, which consists ofThe Legends of Dead Kel,Teeth of Naros, and theWeapons and Armor Bundle.
Now thatTHQ Nordic owns the rights to theKingdoms of AmalurIP, one has to wonder if this is its way of testing the waters for a possible sequel. While THQ Nordic has largely focused on remasters of games in recent years, its plans to create brand new entries in established IP have not been kept secret. In fact, it has already done so for theDarksidersseries, and fittingly enough, the studio that handled theDarksidersremasters is working onKingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning.
With theKingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoningrelease date only a couple of months away, one has to imagine that more detailed information on the game will come sooner rather than later. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how wellKingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoningis received in 2020. TheoriginalKingdoms of Amaluris considered underratedby many, so maybe this remaster will be the second chance that the game needs to really succeed.
Assuming the release date information is accurate, fans can expect to playKingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoninglater this year.
